I think it ALL counts. Music in TV commercials, in the background on TV news and sports shows, at the grocery store, book store or restaurant, in the car, the guy's radio in the cubicle next to you at work, when you're on hold on the phone, the girl whistling in the hallway, the song that's stuck in your head. John Cage said that "Everything we do is music", and he might be right. Oh yeah, and the stuff you actually WANT to hear...

8 but its always been like that. Today is the exception not the rule as I only have heard about 3 hours worth. I have the music on while I am doing things for about 80% of that 8 hours. Also lucky that I am home alone for about 6 hours a day as everybody is working (Day time). 1 hour would be in the car from that 8 hours of time.

Somtimes though I just listen to the noises of everday life and have nothing playing. Always though there still is music even when none is playing because the great Avante muscians are at it. ( THE BIRDS outside)

Hmmm yeah...I'd say music is music (as long as you want to listen and its not just playing somwhere) even on those days I leave the house....I will have the radio on (there are good stations by me) CD's in or my mp3 player.

on my Dutch weekdays including my commute time, around 6 hours (as soon as I'm home, i put on music until bed time >> no TV)

On Begian w-e, a fair amount less (despite concerts), because of other activities (family, friends , girlfriend, etc...)

So on average I'd say in ballpark figures, roughly five hours/day

I went with the more than 8 option.  I'm the guy in the next cube with the music going so I get a full eight hours at work, add another two hours on the commute and at least an hour at home.  iPods are a wonderful thing.  I do have about a half hour a night that I actually just turn everything off and only listen to music, but most of the time it's the accompaniment to my life.

What an original poll. Really good. On the work days I only listen in the car and in the mp3 when I go to sleep. As an average 2 hours or maybe a bit more depending on the day. On the weekends I extends to 4 hours. As an average 3 hs. Almost always progrock or prog related.

1.5 to 2 hours during my commute, depending on traffic.  Sometimes I hope for a traffic jam so that I can get through another album.

2-6 additional hours while at work, depending on how much I need to interact with co-workers or customers.  When I was younger and had less responsibility at work, I could easily listen for 7-8 hours or more.

Almost none at home.   Unhappy

Yeah, this thread made me realize that I'm not as obsessed with music as some people here.  To be honest, I haven't been listening to a whole lot of music this summer, so probably 1-2 hours would be the most honest answer.

Well, I hope you're feeling better than the rest of us music obsessed types. LOL

I'm an 8+.  I listen to whatever I want at work as I'm currently in a private office and spend most of my time on the computer.  I listen to music in the commute, so that's typically 30 minutes most each way.  8+1=9.  If I'm a good boy and do gym add on an extra 30 minutes to an hour.  My home listening habits are more erratic.  Because I listen to so much already, I tend to listen least at home.  I probably spend more time watching prog DVDs. LOL  I also dabble with my musical instruments.  My wife usually watches TV in the bedroom at bedtime.  If I'm not interested in watching I use my player and headphones until I doze off.  So people won't find it too much of surprise that even when I'm in a silent environment music pops into my head (radio head) either original stuff or mostly stuff I've heard before.

Since I started my "Sorting by track length" project. I've probably been doing about six hours a day. Normally it's a little less, though, so I'll vote 4-6.

3-4, if I'm lucky... Most people in my house don't want to hear Opeth blaring out of my room.
