I was going to do this in the proto-prog board, but I...couldn't figure out how to set up a poll there. ::Is very embarrassed::
But my technical inadequacies aside...what's you're favorite Doors album? I'm a fairly dedicated Doorsite, or whatever silly name defines the fans of the band that don't deify Jim Morrison but find the group very excellent from a technical and songwriting perspective. I have to go with Morrison Hotel. I'm not certain I have a specific reason why I love this album so completely, but it just really, really works for me. I love all the albums intensely (I think The Soft Parade is pretty much the bees knees) but Morrison Hotel steals my heart as well as my soul. Go on. Vote for Full Circle. You know you want to. |

I haven't heard Morrison Hotel or L.A. Woman yet (or the last three) but out of the ones I have heard, I'm partial to the first.

L.A. Woman is the first album I ever bought myself. It's still my favorite Doors album and one of my favorite albums of all time.

the first three albums are amazing, but I vote for The Doors (1967)

Their debut is the best thing they've done (and definitely in my top five favorite albums from the 60's), although Morrison Hotel certainly gives it a run for its money.

Soft Parade is their proggiest and best IMO, though your typical Doors fan will say its his least favorite.

Waiting for the sun has many amazing songs and some good ones. I'll vote for that.

The Soft Parade's title track is by far my favorite Doors song. It's been a while since I listened to the whole album though. So no vote for me til I do (if I do...)
If not The Soft Parade, it would probably be Strange Days or maybe the debut... |

"The End" is my favourite Doors track. A giant of a track at any time and among the best ever made prior to 1968,
Add "Light My Fire" and the first album has enough to get my vote. LA Woman is a strong contender though.

This. Also, the remaster features the entire Celebration of The Lizard suite, which is great.

Bumped. But just once. Are The Doors just not beloved in this general region of cyberspace?

I think their 2nd and 3rd albums were the peak.
Just read a book by Densmore where he said that as early as '67 at the New Haven show, they knew it was over. They could tell by then Morrison was gonna self destruct. Densmore has/had an enormous amount of anger for both Morrison and Manzarek, the latter whom he felt led the enabling parade to make certain the cash cow was not disturbed. |

I hate to do it, but I voted for Waiting For the Sun. There are probably better albums (The Doors, Morrison's Hotel, L.A. Woman, maybe even Strange Days), but Waiting... has something about it that I really like. Maybe it's that it is the least Doors-like album, I dunno. A ton of great songs reside on that album. |

Can you tell me where we're headin'?

Votes for the post-Morrison material? I'll admit that I'm a little bit surprised.
Also, my pet album is taking a beating. Sad face. ![]() |
