My whole perception of reality has been rattled.

I propose another, quite similar poll:
"Yes" Progressive Rock
1) Yes
2) No
3) Lyrically, yes but not musically
4) Musically, yes but not lyrically

I guess the OP made this distincion on the poll, because on his previous thread (the same theme, but without the poll), some people answered just this, that the album was progressive according to the lyrics, but not according to the music (which I particularly don't agree, but then it's their opinion.

Well, I certainly didn't
I clearly stated:
Dean wrote:
That is not to say that the music is unimportant, or not progressive in itself - instrumental versions of those albums, should such a thing exist, would still be progressive - |
Also,
Deleuze wrote:
It is.Not only musicaly but look at the lyrics...
|
And,
Rockjf1 wrote:
Of course it's progresive maybe not songs alone but the whole concept with emotional lyrics gives this album a very progressive side so yes it's prog |
And,
javier0889 wrote:
. But the level of experimentation that Pink Floyd represents to the common "rock" or "pop" music, both in lyrics and musical composition, is enough to reckon them as "progressive rock". |
So, there you have it - the four people in that thread who mentioned the lyrics and none of them said the music wasn't progressive.
|
What?

Wow, shocked at the number of folks out there that claim they don't care for Kansas "The Wall"! Oh, I mean Floyd boys. I think "The Trial" alone is an incredible composition both in music & lyrics. Ever try to shuffle the Wall? Don't do it man! The Wall IMO has just 1 maybe 2 too many songs. Talent? 5 stars. Lyrics? 5 stars. Story? 5 stars. Vocals? 5stars. Instrumentation? 4.8. Overkill on certain sections?----definately.
Why are you running away........?

In terms of "amount-of-progness-based-on-popular-ideals-of-prog-rock": Most other prog bands > Lyrics > Music > Most other rock bands.

It'sextremely progressive...it's not my favourite though. I prefer Meddle or Wish You Were Here.

I look up, I'm almost blinded
by the warmth of what's inside me
and the taste that's in my soul,
but I'm dead inside as I stand alone...

A complicate concept exploited with intense lyrics. Musically speaking each track fades into the following with continuity as they were several parts of a single suite. Long guitar parts i.e. Comfortably Numb. A little weak in keyboards but they are always present. Do you need anything else to call it "progressive" ? Isn't Young Lust enough to call it "Rock" ? |
