Rob, I'm drinking Sierra Nevada Torpedo based on your recommendation. It is excellent - thanks.

Early Echolyn is closer to Gentle Giant. After As the World, they ceased to be anything like that and went a far more symphonic rock route. Very complex vocals is the reason they got that label. Otherwise, Echolyn has no semblance to Gentle Giant. |

I got their stuff because I heard they were all Gentle Giant and stuff, but then stuff wasn't like that. I also haven't listened to them in like three years.

Yeah, knowing your tastes, you have the wrong stuff. As the World would probably appeal to you much more. Less symphonic, more eclectic, zanier arrangements. |

That's because you'd rather listen to old men with black rimmed spectacles bitch about the FDA. Seriously, what have you heard? |

My one dream (lol pun) on this site is to have DT respected. They don't have to be liked, just respected. That is all.

I can't get enough of it- I should be working right now, but since I'm listening to it, I can't. It's one of those amazing things that demands full attention (and occasional air guitar or keyboards). |

No shame sir. After Mei (my favorite Echolyn), get Cowboy Poems Free. Musically, it's the opposite- several "pop" songs, as it were. That is to say, no epic, so perhaps a challenge for you- but wow...this is the band's viewing of American history and nostalgia. Five stars. Next for me is The End is Beautiful, one I gave five stars to and still have not digested fully. It is a very depressing album, and yet, the music is upbeat and happy. Try a song about suicide in a peppy major key. After that, either As the World or Suffocating the Bloom. I'm partial to the latter, but the former ends with one of their greatest numbers: "Never the Same." Please play this at my funeral. Amazing. My third favorite band. Did you know I interviewed Brett Kull for Prog Archives last year? I can fetch the link if you've not seen it. |
