Apparently Gungfly (Rikard Sjoblom's (of Beardfish) other band) were recording a new album, which is now out today in their shop.

Such a long list for me, there's no way I could ever end it.

Snowtorch is a huge standout, Maybeshewill just released an excellent album and Van Der Graaf Generator made a beautiful record.

And there's been quite a few jazz releases worth noting like Iro Haarla Quintet's Vespers.

Eh, it's all right. I don't really consider myself a really huge prog fan, so I have no idea what most of these artists are.

Pendragon was good, Phideaux was ok.

Looking forward to big name releases: Opeth, Dream Theater, Rush (?), King Crimson (it counts in my book), Yes, Porcupine Tree, Steve Wilson.

If someone could recomment some folky neo-prog/ neo folky-prog kinda stuff like early Mostly Autumn, then that would be nice. It's all I really care to discover out of new progressive rock music.

Ray Bennett has been mixing & re-mixing his latest "Flash" CD for ages now, I expect that this will also be released in 2011.   From what I've heard, it will be good.

Yeah, Opeth's on my mind. I'm hoping it's a full album of Harvest's, Isolation Years', Windowpane's, and Patterns in the Ivy's. Won't be, though. I never got into Symphony X in the first place, and DT lost me ever since Train of Thought.

"Feather" from Ghost was released as a free single and I like it quite a bit.

Did you hear "Throat of Winter" the most recent soundtrack single from Opeth? I think it may be our best hint at what the new sound will be, though I hope the songwriting is a little more developed. If it is, I will be delighted.

DT lost me after Awake. Big smile

I just now heard a rough version of it. It reminds me of Porcupine Tree (which is a group I only just acclimated myself with). At least, it sounds more alternative gothic rock-ish (no complaints, here). I agree with you that if the songwriting's made a bit more...eventful(?) then I'd probably like it a lot.

You are quite a fine person, and I am very fond of you. But you are only quite a little fellow, in a wide world, after all.

Birds and Buildings is also supposed to be releasing an album this year.

I hear Thinking Plague may be as well.

UPDATED

I'll leave Rush, as a few bands have albums supposedly coming out this year, but there is no release date.

My sig is my abbreviated list. Here is my full

1. Unexpect - Fables of the Sleepless Empire 9.4
2. Grayceon - All We Destroy 8.9
3. Korekyojinn - Tundra 8.1
4. Between the Buried and Me - Parallax 7.9
5. Grails - Deep Politics - 7.7
6. Phideaux - Snowtorch - 7.6
7. Make A Rising - New I Feeling 7.2
8. Scale the Summit - The Collective 7.1
9. Fen - Epoch 4.1
10. Decemberists 3.0

The top 8 are all excellent albums and the top 6 would have made or perhaps eclipsed my top 5 from 2010. Top 2 this year already better than everything 2010 had to offer, and at least one more will qualify there.

I've heard a fair bit of Devin Townsend's two albums and they've been my most anticipated of the year. Decon will likely make my top 5 of the year. Ghost we'll see, I haven't heard enough of it yet.

I'm very excited about Opeth. Also somewhat less Symphony X. Who knows on DT.

What little I've heard of the new Ulver didn't do much for me. I am interested in the new Mogwai.

I heard 'Fly' offa Ghost and I loved the hell out of it. Considering I liked Ki more than Ziltoid or Addicted, Ghost is my most anticipated prog album of the year (non-prog goes to Tom Waits' supposedly new album).

I bet the new Rush gets put off until early next year since they've extended their Time Machine Tour and they might re-record Caravan and BU2B, so I think a 2011 release is looking less likely.

And how are we classifying Amplifier's The Octopus?  It came out in December for members of their website, but an actual wide release wasn't until 2011.

Of the ones that I've heard so far three have been outstanding

1. Magic Pie : The Suffering Joy
2. Neal Morse : Testimony 2
3. Phideaux : Snowtorch

Pendragon is a bit of grower. I didn't like it at first, but I'm coming around to it. I'm actually going to see Pendragon tomorrow, so maybe it will spark into life for me after I see them live

The one's that I'm looking forward to that haven't come out yet would be Sky Architect and The Tangent. I'll certainly give Rush a listen, but the new Yes is just meh for me.
