See the Kaipa interview and I quote Hans Lundin who said "This is not a studio album from 1993, it’s a Japanese bootleg, released 1993 containing live recordings from 1974 and 1976." I don't know what the Admins will make out of that. But it seems like Kaipa accepts it as a part of their history because it is listed on their homepage. So I guess it is OK after all. |

hi,this is the first time i have a problem with a review. Unless he has sampled a leak, this album is not out yet and the reviewer only based his reivews on the previous works by the band and the song titles from this new CD. I cannot the see where he actual talks about the music on this new CD (except that it's SO VERY BORING) |

Who knows what the hell this review: http://www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=33381 is doing here before the album's release date? Written by Prog reviewer, btw.

Do we really want ProgArchives to be closed down due to illegal activities from some deadheads ? The record labels lawyers and solicitors are swarming over the internet like a trillion midges on a hot summer day, looking for reviews like this and for websites to close down. We are sailing close to the wind with reviews like this. I wholly agree with you here, NotAProghead.

![]() well at least his comment 'Well it's the first listen to this new album and I might have a more precise and full opinion about it after a repeated listening to it.' does not prove him a serious reviewer at any rate I sometimes receive promo material where the release is four or more weeks in the future. So this might base on a legal procedure though |

Here is the core of the issue. If you as a music journalist for a newspaper receive a promo copy of an album, the editor of the newspaper will know why you have received this album if you review it four weeks before the album is being published. So if a solicitor throws the lawbooks at the newspaper, he/she will get nowhere and everything is proven perfectly legal. In this case; nobody can prove if this copy is legal or not due to the loose reviewer structure of ProgArchives. A review made four weeks before the publishing date is also a waste of the record label's resources if a legal promo copy was reviewed. In this case, this review is also premature and not based on the usual listening criterias according to the reviewer. If I still ran a record label and a review like that of one of the albums I had invested large resources in was published in PA, I would had been absolute furious and taken actions. This is someone's job, only source of income and life. Not a set of Lego bricks.

It should be PA policy that reviews before the release date will be deleted - no "ifs", no "buts", no "maybes"

^ What's the problem, Dean? The album already has 1 review and 4 ratings and you have rights to delete them.

There is no real problem, other than I don't administrate reviews, it's just not my cup-of-tea, but since I'm the only admin around at the moment, I made an observation that is my opinion, not PA policy.
The note on the album page clearly says: "Note - Ratings posted prior to official release of the album will be removed" - I am happy to delete those ratings and have done so. The review is another issue.
I believe pre-release reviews, however legitimate they may be, encourage premature evaluation of illegal leaks and downloads - I think we should stop that now and the note should say "Ratings and Reviews posted prior to official release..." , but it doesn't
There is another issue in that this album will be released in Japan in 3 days, is it really worth getting into a fuss when legitimate reviews will start turning-up on Wednesday? Edited by Dean - June 19 2011 at 10:33 |

It would be nice to have a list of admins cups-of-tea: who administrate reviews, who manages videos

this review of the new Queensryche album was over two weeks ahead, and doesnt really show any justification that the reviewer has listened to the album. The whole thing (should i call rant) is based on the on song titles rather than their merits. Although i share the same cynicism for the band i once loved, I don't think it's fair to the band to be bashing unreleased materials like this. i strongly suggest the admin to remove this review. |

While it is rare for a promo to be sent out more than a week or two before the release date, it does happen. The main reason is to generaste buzz about the album. Either through in-store play, or reviews. Even if the review is done early, especially if it is a positive review, I doubt the label would be angry at all. Otherwise, what's the point of sending out the promos?
|
||
Trust me. I know what I'm doing.

Four weeks is a long, long time in the mind of a human being/record buyer. Most people's attention span is around one week to 24 hours. A review 4 weeks before release date in the shops does not create buzz or any new buyers outside the diehard fanbase (ie which is e x a c t l y the whole point of a review) unless there is a sustained 5-6 weeks long promotion campaign around the release. Who can afford that ? Not Frontiers and hardly EMI/Warner Bros either these days. Most promos is sent out with a "do not publish before date X". I have sent out promos and received promos this way myself. A review need to hit the new buyer (disregard the diehard fanbase here) excactly some hours or just when he/she is able to order the album. You know, one click order at an online store or a travel down town to the record store. Four weeks ? Please tell me what you did and what you read on the 27. May, please.

Disturbingly graphic and vulgar and brings nothing of value to the this website.
