Yeah, it will be a late night for you Scott - but you should be treated to a hell of a game.

If anything "good" came out of the rainout on Friday, it is that I get to see the Verlander-Sabathia matchup in person tonight, instead of having to watch it on TV.  It really sucks though that they don't start the games until 8:37.  That is an hour and a half after the normal starting time.  With Verlander and Sabathia pitching the game could be reasonably over in 2 1/2 hours, but Yankees' game generally last 3 1/2 to 4 hours because every guy in their lineup works the pitcher.  Earliest that I am home tonight is most likely midnight, and probably more realistically 1:00.   Makes getting up at 5:30/6:00 in the morning to go to work not so fun.

Carpenter is old. He may be my favorite Cardinal pitcher of my 30+ years of being a fan, but he's not the ice he was even 2-3 years ago. But apparently LaRussa rushed him so he could have him for a potential game 5. We really needed Wainright this year.

Welcome home team

One of the Jays biggest mistakes of the past 10 years was giving up Carpenter.  Looking back though, his last year with the Jays wasn't pretty.

I know. Ugh.

And things like the Cards having a BABIP of .600 off of Cliff Lee and a terrible strike zone which would normalize over a large series basically decide who wins a championship or not.

It's awful, isn't it?  You lose one game and all you can see is doom on the horizon.

You are quite a fine person, and I am very fond of you. But you are only quite a little fellow, in a wide world, after all.

Indeed...all my fear is rushing back now!

At least the Cards won. They have little chance but still it feels good to hope.

That was a tough one, watching that lead evaporate.

I have as much fear as you do, probably more.

Maggs went 3 for 3 too.  Inge 1 for 1 with a HBP.  Nice days by two guys who are lucky to still be Tigers.  My heart is still thumping in my chest.  The Tigers need Verlander to be lights out tomorrow.  I don't know if Benoit or Valverde will be available tomorrow.

Yeah, never pitch Valverde in a non-save situation. You always end up with a heart attack! But hey, Scherzer came up big, and Miggy showed up as well. I'm wondering when Austin Jackson gets moved down to 9th in the batting order. His at-bats are downright embarrassing.

Yankees have a better offense this year than the last time they faced the Phillies, who in turn have a worse offense. However, we don't have washed up Pedro Martinez pitching for us this time as a Game 2 starter.

Naw I know, was just saying I'd be tempted but yeah...we already are on a 3 day rotation no need to mess with CC even more.

I really don't think I'm being a homer...but agreed, the Yanks are the best team in the AL.
Anything can happen of course.

Problem is, if we have a Yankees/Phillies rematch unlike last time where I felt we had a definite upper hand...we don't match up as well this time.
At least we havn't needed to face Halladay on a regular basis this year

Lee is still a much better pitcher even if he's not vulnerable. Then again, they have 3 really really good RH bats. I think we'll handle Carpenter okay. If Lee can hold them like Halladay did I think we can win it.

Take away the mediocre first inning and Halladay went 7 innings scoreless with 8Ks, 1 H, and only a single fly ball. Wow that guy's good.

Two more games like tonight and it looks to be the Phils and the Brewcrew.

Yeah, for Arizona to have a chance I think they really needed to win Kennedy's starts.

I'll certainly feel better if we can win tonight.  Hoping Carpenter might be vulnerable on short rest.
