Why can't St. Louis accept that they are sh*t? Also, is this year not a perfect example of how ridiculous it is that the All-Star Game decides home field advantage? They're winning games at the right time. It's not difficult math.
Exactly.....That's why we also call it the POST season.........PRE season means doo-doo......POST season means it all.
They 100% belong in the playoffs.......they did everything needed to get there......Including beating the best team in the REGULAR season......which in this case means nothing.

You are quite a fine person, and I am very fond of you. But you are only quite a little fellow, in a wide world, after all.

Why they shouldn't be in the playoffs, because no one expect them to beat the Phillies. They won that's all, in sports it's not alwayys the team that deserve to win that win. As far as the home field advantage, i agree with you., but baseball has always been too traditionnal. They should have put the best second team years ago in the playoffs.

I hear that the weather in St. Louis is as crappy as the weather here is in Michigan. Cold and rainy. Perfect day for a World Series baseball game. Sounds just like the Tigers game 1s against the Yankees and the Rangers during this years playoffs.

No pity, really. They actually exceeded my expectations for the year. They made baseball fun again in the 'D'. A couple of plays here and there and the outcome would be different, but that's baseball. And I expect the Rangers will win the World Series this year. Their starting pitchers suck, but that lineup and those relievers (Ugando and Feliz in particular) are scary.
That being said, if the Tigers don't make the play-offs next year, I will be pissed. Although I do have some suggestions:
Allow Ordonez and Carlos Guillen to retire. They are done. Use the money (and there is several million dollars between those two) to get a Jose Reyes-type free agent with speed.
For the love of god, get rid of Brad Penny. Use a fire hydrant to replace him. Or the dog pissing on the fire hydrant.
Resign Delmon Young.
Use the speedy free agent signing as a lead-off hitter. Put Austin Jackson batting second or ninth - anywhere but lead-off.
That's it.
Agree with most of this. I am seeing the name Brandon Phillips batted about a bit and that intrigues me. I'm not certain that I want Jose Reyes as I think he might be bad for the chemistry but I wouldn't be upset if we were able to get him. My only problem with resigning Delmon Young is his lack of speed and defense and there being nowhere else to put him. Brennan Boesch will be back next year, so we might not have as much of a need for Young. It would be nice to get a guy like Gardner from the Yankees to play left field. Not Gardner per se, but someone with his skillset. I'm open to suggestions there. That being said, Young was a great late season acquisition and really helped carry the team in the postseason.
I'm pretty sure Brad Penny is gone. I think that I would be willing to part with either Scherzer or Porcello to add a left handed starter to the rotation. Not sure about what to expect from our stable of kids: Turner, Oliver, Below, Coke. I'm not sure if any of them will be rotation ready next year.
Not too bad for a team that was almost eliminated in the course of the season, but they made a great comeback and were hot at the right times, when the phillies went cold.

Tigers collapse. I am depressed. I suppose I could complain about the umpiring (a called third strike and an out at second that were both missed), but the game has gotten silly now.

I think that Scherzer may need to drill him in the ribs in his first at-bat on Saturday to send a message to get him to quit digging in so much. Two of his homers have hit the foul pole. The one last night hit the foul territory side of the foul pole, so he got really lucky on that one. He has been unbelievable with all of these home runs this series. I keep thinking that there is no way that he will hit another one, and then he does.

^ That's why they are in the playoffs.....gotta bring it everygame like its your last.......Texas has been doing nothing different with their bats in the past 5-6 yrs. What has improved is their pitching.........The old joke was yea Texas will score 13 runs but still loose by 1.
