This is not the only case and I've read one very long and incredibly interesting of another band's member some time ago. I don't think he has influenced the score in any way as the 11 ratings give an average of 3.04 and he has rated his own work with 3 stars. Even without having listened to any album of that band I think he is probably honest. About the quality of the review, well I think it's in the average as well and bio info in a review for me are welcome.

It's honest and open enough to qualify as well intentioned but perhaps a tad misguided. Doesn't break any review guidelines.

But mathematically speaking he can't help but have an influence on the score because his rating is taken into account when calculating the average.

I've nothing against band members providing insightful information, because that enriches the archives. I just don't think a review is the right place for it. I say transfer the information into the band bio (perhaps with the formatting tidied up a little).

I agree. If it does not mention the songs, album or music, it is only reporting on the band itself, therefore not a review of an album. Strange one here.... Wacko

Warthur is spot on when raising this question. Too many band members is sending their fans and the rest of us messages and thank you's in the reviews sections. There is at least a dozen more of these reviews which should be rooted out and binned. The same goes for messages from managers and promotion agencies.

First of all; is does the band a big disservice and really destroys any good reputation they may have got. Secondly, our reviews section is meant to be a place where reviews is made of albums. Those here who disagree; go to the front page of PA. Read. Try to understand. If any bassist want to do anything but review his own album and then gives the album a 5 star, our whole reviews section falls into disrepute and we can close it down. That's the choice we face.  

Let's keep up the standards. Let's be serious.

I don't remember which was, but some time ago there was one in the Reviews discussion thread. It was written by a band member, it was very long and full of info about that album, not the band, so not suitable for the BIO as Warthur suggests. It was full of technical details about the instruments and the equipment used and I have found it very interesting.

This specific one is not so good but there are a lot of reviews of this kind even from occasional reviewers not necessarily linked to a band. This is not worse than many others. I agree with SnowDog. 

Last but not least, if you rate your own work less than three stars you probably wouldn't release it at all, don't you think?

But if band members want to put that information out there, they can give us an interview or something. They shouldn't be hijacking a system which is meant to be providing an assessment of the music and giving recommendations in favour or against it.

If band members are allowed to review their own material then the credibility of our whole system takes a knock.

If we are not speaking of Geinoh Yamashirogumi, I don't think a band has enough members to influence the system. However you can't prevent a band member from registering anonimously and do what he wants.

I disagree, actually I think it should be encouraged for them to do it openly, since they can do it anonymously, because at least when someone is reading their review, they can be like "Oh, this is a band member" and regard the review accordingly.

This album of the band The Inner Road was rated by two members, one of them being Jacs1963 (Jacqui Gresswell) with 5 stars.

The keyboardist of the band is Steve Gresswell. Coincidence? Don't think so. Is this allowed?

Yep, It's perfectly fine for band members, spouses, parents, siblings, grandparents, children, grandchildren, aunts and uncles, cousins, friends, acquaintances, neighbours, colleagues, church members and anyone else who may or mayn't be known to the band to review an album. It would be nice if those doing so would be upfront about it, but there is no rule that says they should - for some of the artists listed here that probably accounts for their entire audience.

Seriously, a rating-only has a very low weight, specialy if it's the only one.
We should inform the bands of this kind of the "review our music" thread. It may give them much more visibility than a single 5 stars rating, isn't it?

Not sure of the relevance of the following comment here but I'm sure someone will correct me...
 
I'm waiting for the new Arena album that is due out at the end of the month, and have noticed that there are already 21 reviews on this site, how come? The album is yet to be released... Whilst I understand that promo copies could be in circulation, and, if this being the case then a comprehensive review would be more suitable, instead all that is given is a rating. I seem to recollect I raised a similar issue about the validity of such ratings a few years ago, suggesting that it gave a skewed result. There are so many people out there who spend inordinate ammounts of time to provide excellent reviews that genuinely help others to make a calculated choice. So why are others allowed to provide a meaningless rating only; especially with an album (in this instance) that has yet to see the light of day...
