It's unfortunate, but they're marketing to a certain audience. It's supposed to be a movie for adolescents. Thus the big push to diminish the violence and earn a PG-13 rating. A rich story of political strife and abuse kind of takes a backseat to, "Omg Pita's so cute and he'll die for her."

I also surprisingly enjoyed it. I'm now being forced to read the books.
