What I hate is the sound of neon lights.

Bagpipes are not Celtic, most of Europe has some form of bagpipe like instrument, as this Flemish painting by Bruegel shows:
Brueghels Peasant Dance
Instruments with drones are known throughout the world and most of them are pleasant enough, but I think the Picts chose the bagpipes just to annoy their neighbours - they certainly make more noise than a harp or lyre.

You can always get a buzz out of neon lights.
What?

The harmonium is quite a nice drone instrument from India (but I think the British Imperialists helped them out a bit with it.)

Yes, I don't like any kind of bagpipes. Not only the sound but the lack of dynamics and expression. It's as if its aim is to annoy.

I have a problem with soprano sax too...kind of bothering...

Clavinette! I don't think I've heard anything I like with that instrument..

How about sitar...no, not a fan of that one.

So you don't like A Passion Play?

I thought of another one: melodica!

This forum is buggy as hell. It took me four tries to get that to post properly. It kept randomly bolding and doubling things.

Lap steel guitar, when played in the whiny, country music style.
On the other hand David Gilmour can do wonders with it!

I have to agree, there's not really any instrument I dislike. However, creepy music box sound effects (Light of Day, Day of Darkness, anyone?) always make me a tad uncomfortable...
I consider drone metal to be progressive...

One day at work I was performing the theme to Godfather on a slide whistle. I prefer just to whistle with what god gave me.

I think most instruments have their place and sound good from time to time. I think, however, it is significantly hard to find a good usage of those heavy vibrato Hammond B2 tones used for Southern revivalist church worship services. You know, the kind they have when the preacher gets up and does his thing, and the organist plays a bluesy, gospel type thing.  That vibrato organ upsets me 99% of the time.

It's just a thing I have. Almost anything that reminds me of Gospel I can't stand.

You must have a strong association of the instrument with the Gospel genre. I don't like brass band music but find the instruments OK used elsewhere.
