Every person has a different reaction.
Probably if I would grab to the remains of the glorious 70's, I would had lost part of the 80's, After listening ATTW3, Love Beach and Tormato, I knew it was time to expand my horizons and search for a new alternative, because the 70's, along with Genesis, Yes, ELP, etc, would never come back again.
It's true that UK, early 80s Moody Blues with Moraz and other transitional bands were close to the 70's but they were different and good, then came Neo Prog, which i First found boring and light, but being the only viable alternative, it started to capture me, but first I had to let the icons go.
Now, I'm a fan of the music Marillion, IQ, Pendragon, etc made, something that would had never happened if I remained exclusively faithful to the remains of Yes, Genesis and ELP.

90125 by far. Used to listen to it a lot but not much now so I wouldn't consider it a "classic" album. On the other hand, I prefer to continually discover new music as opposed to listening to tried and true classics.

I don't know how you not liking something equates with bad. I get the impression through this thread that some people feel YES betrayed some Prog ideal by the direction they took with these albums. That just seems such a narrow minded way to think about music.

'90125' is a fine album. The problem is that there is rather little prog in it. (So recommended to mainstream audiences) 'Big generator' has even less prog in it and is weak album from any angle you survey it.

90125 is preferable to me but there is a lot on Big Generator I also like, just not the title track. I try to take the albums as they come without tossing a load of baggage on top of them. It allows me to listen to the music as music rather than as a historical sequence. Neither of these are my favorite Yes albums, but that does not mean that I cannot enjoy them at all.

Neither album has held up all that well for me because Rabin's guitar tricks and his Van Halen type rock guitar style---not that I don't occassionally try to listen to them from beginning to end as a huge Yes fan---but I haven't been able to get thru them also true of Talk----90125 is a little better as it has some of Horn's 80's production techniques he was using on his Art of Noise group and some other groups.

Someone says they don't like either of these two and that they would rather listen to ABBA (in other words, they think the albums are lame) - you call them close minded.
You say The Mars Volta are lame - it's okay, you're not close minded, it's just an opinion.

you don't like The Mars Volta, someone doesn't like 90125/Big Generator. I honestly can't see the difference.

The Mars Volta is a band, 90125/ Big Generator are albums. For me, The Mars Volta are not my preference. Yes fans who dislike those albums either dislike them or are close-minded because those albums are a dramatic departure from the usual Yes sound and they are not willing to accept change, does that sound better

I'd rather not listen to either. I'm not close minded. There's just music that I listen to and music that I don't. Just because I don't like or listen to something doesn't mean is sucks.
