I also have the mellotron app and it is amazing! Sounds 100% legit. I use it in nearly every song I write. Star

I used to play bass primarily, with some guitar and keyboards.
Surgery about 10 years ago has made my left hand a bit slow.  Just enough to make any attempts at playing mostly frustrating.
My son has most of my equipment now, but these days barely touches an instrument.
Trust me. I know what I'm doing.

He's just anti-digital, I guess that he would be pissed at anyone saying that an iPad App can sound as good as an old analog Mellotron.

Can't please everyone. There was a reaction against the first electric guitar. These days you can even have your entire amp setup on an ipad and listen via Bluetooth speakers or headphones.

Steve Hackett mainly uses guitar amp simulator software instead of amps nowadays.

When recording I do too, 'logic' has an amazing array of effects/amp setups. Not that I would compare myself directly to Mr. Hackett. Bowdown

I still gotta figure out Garage Band.

I know how to plug in (Apogee One) and play, but all that syncing multiple tracks, getting Easy Drummer to do what I want it to do, etc. still befuddles me. I guess I should try to find out if Sweetwater does seminars for beginners like me. I only live an hour+ drive away.

I use logic, which is like garageband on steroids. I haven't gotten around to its amps yet, and just use real ones. I'm having too much fun with all the MIDI keyboard instruments.

^logic is very powerful. I find recording midi from my guitar synth is especially useful. You can get all sorts of nice things happening. There are so many guitar amps etc. you can record a guitar line and then try out different setups afterwards!
