Holymoly, here's one of the suggested titles you can hear in full on Progstreaming....

I've already "recommended" this. LOL
If it would happen that this one was my introduction to RPI, I'm afraid it would be my last RPI purchase.

Fortunately my first RPI album was BANCO debut.

Romina e Al Bano... well, back to the topic... why not try Leone di Lernia?

I figure anything Jacula/Antonious Rex related is about as `outer fringe' of Italian prog as possible, so I present one of my favourite pieces, from the debut Jacula album:

JACULA - Initatio

Such a beautiful hypnotic and ambient piece that wraps around you with it's icy fingers

Jim, I feel I've let the Jacula/Rex albums become a little unappreciated lately....about to change that!

They were actually the catalyst for my starting this thread.  Between them and Franco Battiato (whom I discovered around this time last year), I realized there must be more "weird" music from Italy than I ever imagined.  And I knew there'd be plenty of folks on this forum that could show me the way there.

To be honest, I'm still not sure I love their music, but I'm so intrigued by their oddness that I'm eager to listen and learn anyway.  Good stuff is worth the time and effort to let it sink in.

No one mentioned Jumbo yet? My favorite Italian album by far:

To be honest, Steve, I'm talking a big game there! Jacula/Rex is not the sort of project that I listen to day in/day out! Just one I really immerse myself in every few months, and get so much out of the experience. Both the vintage albums and the newer releases all offer something fascinating, but listening to particulalrly those earlier albums can be draining and somewhat unhappy.

But have you heard the Antonius Rex album `Ralefun'? It's their one album that almost sounds like a `proper' RPI album, very melodic with lots of flute and acoustic guitar, for some reason reminds me a lot of PFM? Try these two tracks:

Antonius Rex - Ralefun 01 - Magic Sadness:

Antonius Rex - Ralefun 02 - Agonia per un Amore:

Warning, though, these tracks don't sound from the `outer fringes' of RPI unlike some of the other Jacula/Rex related stuff! Hope you like, guys, that's a very special album to me!

I hear you Michael, those first two albums were pretty wild!

I wouldn't call it weird but it's definitely progressive. I'm assuming you're talking about their final third album, it's one of my favorite and certainly an album you have to check out Steve.

Edit: Can't see the utube link.
