We're definitely going to the new Star Trek movie sometime soon. My wife's a big Trek fan from way back. Neener Neener.

I have a hard time with the whole re-boot with different actors thing, which is another reason I haven't broken down and watched the 1st re-boot yet. Sometimes it works for me, sometimes it doesn't. I expect that I will probably enjoy this one though once I do sit down and watch it.

I hate the idea of reboots, it seems like such a lazy way to make films. The reason they do it, of course, is that they sell. But I can't help thinking if they bothered to put out some good original movies that they would sell as well. People will go see whatever's out, even crap, as long as it's hyped properly.
That said, I still go see and enjoy these reboots just because they're there and they are generally well executed - they used all the money they saved on coming up with a decent idea, and put it into making a top class production. And it works just fine, I just wish there were more original ideas getting heard. I know there have to be some screenwriters out there with great new ideas, they're just not getting made. |

Say, what if the music industry goes down that road.... remaking classic albums. We're starting to see that with prog albums (e.g. Flaming Lips doing DSOTM), what if some hot new R&B singer did a re-recording of "Thriller"? I guarantee that would sell like hotcakes, and some people would even claim it's better than the original.
(edit: when I say "sell like hotcakes", I mean "sell/illegally download like hotcakes". not sure there's really a true cash market out there for music anymore or not) Edited by HolyMoly - June 11 2013 at 13:14 |

It is funny because I really enjoy the reboot of Hawaii Five-O, but in that case I never really watched the original other than a handful of episodes here and there. I enjoyed the reboot of Battlestar Galactica, but kind of the same thing there. I remember enjoying the original as a 7 or 8-year old kid, but honestly didn't remember all that much about it. The Starbuck being a woman was kind of weird, but it didn't take long to get over that. On the other hand, I refuse to watch the new Sherlock Holmes series because I refuse to accept Doctor Watson as a woman or the premise that they live in New York. The show itself is probably really good, but I just refuse to watch it. |

On a more cheery note, I am listening to Simon and Garfunkel's discography. Last one now. Bridge Over Troubled Water.
