Lube me up honey - I'm opting for the TD backdoor
Aaaaaaaanyway...
I have that album too. One of my friends bought it for me last year, and the first thing on my mind when I saw that name was Zoltar, I know but my brain obviously didn't mind the wee difference
I think they sound a lot like Zombi actually, but I certainly get the TD and Goblin references too. Did you ever check out Zombi btw?

Yup - it's definitely worth getting imo. This album literally feels like tumbling down a TD rabbit hole ca 1972. Think Atem but ultimately more ascetic in it's usage of synths and organs. I really dig that about the album - and the production thankfully complements this feature to the fullest. 1972 baby...-recorded in some guy's smoky damp cellar There's room for improvement though. I miss a synth here and there - or maybe a guitar? I'm not sure - maybe I haven't fully gotten my head around it yet. That's not to say that it's a difficult album to get into - especially if you're approaching it from an early 1970s TD backdoor
Thanks for your input on Roach - I may just star out with the more modern sounding ambient stuff he's been doing. There's at least one that you awarded with the full monty that I'm curious about

Well, I do love Tangerine Dream, though I'd never dreamed of approaching their backdoor, no matter how much I love them! Hmmm, that sounded drrrrty! With Tangerine Dream, I tend to be a bit more romantic, like to give them a good cuddle, as opposed to a bit of rough stuff! Speaking of...now playing: ZOLTAN - First Stage Zoltan - essentially a cross between Tangerine Dream and Goblin!

Btw, Samuel mentioned that he'd mentioned Krakatau to you.... Damn, I feel sorta embarrassed that I didn't do so a year ago! I've been listening to these guys for a good while now, but I always thought they were from New Zealand. It was only here the other day that I found out they practically were residing in your backyard |
Dave, do you also rate that Krakatau album? Sam pointed it out to me the other day, and after contacting the band, they seemed to suggest I could get one of the few last remaining copies from a shop not far away from me in Sydney. Do you think it would be worth it?
Roach is an acquired taste, my friend! Many find his `sound collages' to be beyond tedious and repetitive (and probably, to be fair, some of them can be! ), but there are plenty of his albums that are very immersive and impressive. His most recent `Skeleton Keys' album, where he went back to a pure analog sound with plenty of sequencers, seems to be being warmly recieved, but I and a few others on the Archives I've spoken to about it who appreciate his work have been a little underwhelmed by it. |

^ That's probably what would happen if I would thank Steven Wilson for 'On The Sunday' or 'Up The Downstair' I hope you'll get more than a single word if you're able to thank Mr. Göttsching

^^ That sounds nice. I'll consider getting that one on my next order. Speaking of chilled out I think I'll buy a cheap LP copy of Deuter's second album, it doesn't seem as good as the first one, but I liked what I listened

You know, Sam, I think much the same way. That first one is very special to me. I actually wrote to Deuter thanking him for that album and mentioning how much it meantr to me, and I gave him a link to my 5 star review of it, and he only responded back with a simple `thanks' . I don't know if it was the language barrier, or general disinterest, but I actually suspect it's more to do with the fact that he's moved on from that period of his life loooooooooooooong ago. He's probably an entirely different person from when he recorded that one, and at least musically he couldn't have left that experimental style behind more. Why, just this morning I got some update about the imminent release of his billionth New Age album due in September!

Constant subtle sequencers and light beats, it's pretty much like a better version of that `Skeleton Keys' one! Very chilled out and drifting, my friend!
