His dad, Cyril Wakeman, was a businessman in London. I dare say he got into it through family connections.

Pete Townshend was shocked when Freemasons turned up at John Entwistle's funeral as it turned out John had been a Freemason for ages without any of the other band knowing.
Also Chas Smyth, the songwriter and dancer for Madness has been reported to being a Freemason.

Did not know that about Rick Wakeman though! So that's why he's the BBC go to guy for presenting documentaries about 70's music!

Just curious as to how many musicians, prog or otherwise, that you know of, who are Freemasons? I cam across Rick Wakeman in some pictures from the Chelsea Lodge in London.
