Plays for the day that is this.

The Flaming Lips | Clouds Taste Metallic
R. Stevie Moore | What’s the Point?!!
However | Calling
Michael Mantler | Something There
Oregon | In Performance
Oregon | Music of Another Present Era

Anyone remember However? Cool band. Been a long time since I listened to them.

Yeah, I'll have to ask him on FB or something. I know he has a new album coming up this year. I did bump into Astrodome at the concert, I could have asked them if their third album was cooking.
I guess it will be the last concert in a while, everything is being canceled but I'm still hopeful about Gouveia Art Rock, the line-up is sweet (Gong, Steve Hillage, Soft Machine).

I hope I won't forget them again, it's very easy without knowing the language. I know träd is tree though.

Thanks for reminding me of Elephant9, I bought Atlantis a couple of years ago and only spun it once Embarrassed

This week:
Bruno Pernadas - How Can We Be Joyful in a World Full of Knowledge?
Jorge Palma - O Lado Errado da Noite

Vangelisday:
China (It started because of the opener's melody in my head)
L'Apocalypse des Animaux (First listen. Such gentle music ^_^)
The Dragon (It was impossible to listen to anything after this epic album)

Eloy - Power and the Passion
David Bowie - Low (All this talk about Bowie reminded me to spin this again. I'm not a fan but this record has some great stuff.)
Arena - Contagion Max (It seemed appropriate :P)
Michael Brückner - Muzikhala (CD3)
Cícero Lee - Those Who Stay

Jore Palma - Quarto Minguante
La Coscienza di Zeno - La Notte Anche di Giorno
Kasabian - Empire
Papir - Stundum

Giant Foriday:
Gentle Giant
Acquiring the Taste
Octopus
The Power and the Glory
Free Hand

It’d be a real shame if such a thing never reached the ears of...well me

I have recently spun Atlantis quite relentlessly. There’s just something there that really connects with me...sorta like ELP on mescaline doing Krautrock. Psychedelic Backfire in particular is a riveting piece of Krautsauce to these ears.

China Perhaps one of my faves from Vangelis...although I did not like it when I first got it. Way too velvety and serene for my tastebuds at the time..but I was also coming from the album you also listened to, The Dragon, and was not at all prepared for the soapy feel of the synths. Nowadays I’m completely on board

A whole day of Gentle Giant?
That seems very...err tight(s)?

Yesterday:
Autechre - Amber
Perfect Beings - Vier
XTC - Apple Venus Volume 1
Witthüser & Westrupp - Der Jesuspilz
Adrian Young - Something About April ll
Nils Frahm - All Melody (Very very nice melodic contemporary electronic album with a nod or two to the old Germans)
Vangelis - Blade Runner OST
Jorge Palma - Com Uma Viagem Na Palma Da Mão
Klaus Schulze - La Vie Electronique 6
Capability Brown - Voice
Boards Of Canada - Geogaddi

^Nice selection there Steve Any man who listens to Battiato and Public Enemy in the same day is my kinda fella

A little while back my old external harddrive crashed on me - meaning I lost a lot of music I only had in download form. Your recent postings of Ty Segall albums continue to remind me of this...which is pretty neat actually because I need some Seagal in my life that doesn’t do Aikido...ba-douhm-tchi!
Manipulator will be one of the first albums I get. I remember it being my favourite.

Yesterday:
Les Big Byrd - Iran Iraq Ikea
Autechre - Chiastic Slide
Jorge Palma - Acto Continuo
Banda Do Casaco - Hoje Há Conquilhas Amanhã Não Sabemos
Älgarnas Trädgård - Delayed
Mother Turtle - Zea Mice

Yeah, they're something else Big smile I was bummed when I found out too late that they played at a free festival last year. I'd really love to see them, especially with Reine Wink

I still don't have China (or The Dragon for that matter), only Jarre's souvenirs of it Tongue It was the opposite for me, I really disliked The Dragon at first, coming from Spiral. I had not acquired the taste for Krautsauce at the time but I was very much into it not much later Big smile

I was feeling like a self-imprisoned Robin Hood LOL

Good to see you're giving Palma a spin, he's been comforting my days lately Approve Have you thought about delving more into Banda do Casaco? Wink

I'll have to remember to give that Les Big Byrd album a listen, I didn't know they had released another album, it's been a while though.

Saturday:
Black Bombaim - Far Out
The Cars - The Cars

I spent the whole Sunday programming drums so I could only digest beatless music today:
Ashra - New Age of Earth
Cosmic Ground - 5

Battiato’s Clic album has turned into one of my (almost) daily albums. Like 200 Motels, or Departure from the Northern Wasteland. It just hits all the right happy spots for me - I often play it to go to sleep to, like a lullabye.

Ty Segall is such an awesome dude, though his huge output isn’t entirely devoid of flaws. Manipulator is possibly the strongest album-length thing I’ve heard from him; though I may give the nod to Freedom’s Goblin, which came out in ‘18 and flows like the best double albums in classic rock history. I played side 4 for some friends I had over last weekend and they were noticeably groovin before I even told them what it was (it sounded a lot like a Neil/Crazy Horse jam).

Today I worked at home, as I will continue to do for a while, though occasional trips to the office to run heavy duty stuff will occur. But in the time I had to play music, I played just 2 things:

Klaus Schulze | La Vie Electronique 4
The Numbers Band | Jimmy Bell’s Still in Town
Dungen | Dungen Live — a late entry, just arrived. Wow!

Samuel: Yeah I tend to go through phases during the year where I go absolutely crazy for Elephant9 (and Fire! Orchestra for some reason) and right now the surge is strong! I haven’t seen them live either but would love to. Come on..anyone with a passion for talented musicians doing their thang should at least find something interesting in one of the many, surprisingly good sounding, YouTube clips that there are of the band. I’m actually over the moon about the recent two live albums because they free me of the toob....and every time I see one of those clips I instantly start thinking about why it is that I’ve never seen them live So yeah glad about those cds.
I am listening to a lot of Vangelis that I always seem to overlook in favour of fx The Dragon..but man China, Earth, Hypothesis and Blade Runner are all such brilliant and diverse albums that I am falling in love with the Greek maestro once again. Funny how that goes when you neglect to spin albums from certain artists

Sure more Banda Do Casaco! What do you recommend for me? Just a little fyi: I think the yellow conq album is a masterpiece and would love more of that psychedelic yet folky rural vibe.

Steve: It has become something similar to me and I love the fact that you mentioned lullaby. I’ve often thought of it like this experimental musical box album meant for sleepless and abstract thinkers of the night. I certainly prefer to put it on late at night and just let my mind wander off. Also some kosmische sauce going down which I really dig.
Comfort albums eh? Now you’ve got me thinking...but yeah one of em is surely Lucio Battiato’s Anima Latina. If I am experiencing a rough and unfair day, I merely need to spin that sucker to be reminded of beauty, warmth and sunlight.
Freedom’s Goblin! Of course! Thank you very much my good man I knew there was something about those two words but I had them reversed and could not find an album called Goblin’s Freedom here the other day whilst trying to make a wish-list for upcoming orders (uhhh mama, I feel a lot of em coming up with the amount of records I am finding/remembering).
Dungen live album? Now why have I never thought of that? I mean all the gigs I’ve attended of theirs have been absolutely smoking. Odd.

Yesterday:
OMD - Architecture & Morality (just an awesome new wave album)
Kebnekaise - ll (I love how you can hear that the guitarists also are fiddle players. Gives off that almost North African Tuareg blues feel to the music)
Talaboman - The Night Land
Captain Sensible - Women & Captains First
Popol Vuh - In Den Gärten Pharaohs (I love this album. Such a trippy delight - like making out with a hot neutrino)
Bauhaus - In The Flat Field
Archimedes Badkar - Tre
Genesis - Nursery Cryme (Recently got this on cd..but it’s the 2008 remaster and I honestly haven’t heard the album sound this good before. It’s still raw but not as mushy as I seem to remember my vinyl copy being)
Elephant9 - Psychedelic Backfire ll (The real question concerning this release is whether or not people would have known that the first cut actually is Stevie Wonder’s classic ‘You Are The Sunshine Of My Life’ if it didn’t say on the back-cover?
I have my doubts...but that doesn’t mean it isn’t a brilliant track - it is! Like the soundtrack to a ballet performed by jello and birds)
Björn J:son Lindh - Från Storstad Til Grodspad
Kollektiv - RWF Sessions (Sweet ford this is the real deal!!! If you’re a sucker for jam music with proper flute, organs and shimmering guitars, then you’re in for a real treat with this one. Hah and to think that I completely forgot I had it )
Blanck Mass - World Eater
Foxygen - Hang

Steve: How's the new Dungen album? Is it brand new music or previous stuff played live?

David: Check out their debut, "Dos Benefícios dum Vendido no Reino dos Bonifácios", it's a bizarre concept album and their trippiest for sure. "Coisas do Arco da Velha" is their most rural album, it has some of their best songs on side A but side B is not so good. I've been returning to "Também Eu" often, it's from 1982 with a New Wave Folk sound and their best singer. I even wrote a review a while ago.

I also bought that Nursery Cryme remaster on vinyl last month but it's still in shrink. It's my fave Genesis album, I sold my original vinyl a few years ago and been looking for this one since. Then I went to a record store that had not one but three vinyl copies of it LOL
Man, I'd very much like to hear that Kebnekaise again, but have a limited internet connection at home. I only heard it once but I remember I really liked it.

In the last two days:
Mort Garson - Ataraxia
Jamiroquai - Emergency on Planet Earth
Bent Knee - You Know What They Mean
Jorge Palma - Com Uma Viagem na Palma da Mão
Trovante - Chão Nosso
Handwrist - A Vibe to the Perplexed
Reis da República - Fábulas (I don't know how many times I heard it since I discovered it about a year ago. 50 times maybe!?)

To be honest I can't remember everything I've listened to over the past week or two.  I have been mildly obsessed with watching those dumb "Reaction" youtube videos (the ones that are believable) of the younger generation listening to some of the stuff I grew up with, mostly they only hit the classic rock stuff, only a few Yes and Floyd songs.  Interesting to see some African Americans listening to it.

Anyway, saw some of the Vangelis discussion above and I had never heard Dragon before.  Listened to that on the tube and really enjoyed it.  It seems to be a hard album/CD to find to buy new online for some reason.  Also listened to China (one of my favs by him) as well as a "Best of Vangelis" compilation.

Others that I remember:
Latte E Miele - Papillion
The Pineapple Thief - Dissolution
Ozric Tentacles - Erpland
Ian Anderson - Homo Erraticus

Sam - the Dungen album is really cool. Most of the tracks don’t have tiitles, they seem to be live excerpts from jams within the songs. Pretty much an instrumental album. Cool idea. Perfect for Reine Fiske fans such as me.

Samuel: I will give the debut and the new wavy one a shot, thanks man Regarding the latter I am already fairly certain it’ll be cool. Maybe because I already own a few other somewhat obscure albums from either Latin America or the Mediterrenean that succeed in making 80s music come alive. Itoiz’ Alkolea is perhaps one of my favourite records of the sort. I’ll bet you a bag of beets that you will dig it
You need some Kebnekaise in your life other than what jootoob occasionally will offer up. I actually thought about sending you ll but landed on something different

Jim: I’ve seen a couple of those ‘reaction’ vids and some times they truly seem genuine...and well watching an obvious hip hop devotee literally shedding a tear whilst listening to Floyd for the first time...well you have to be a harder man than myself not to feel some sort of warmth and heartfelt appreciation of the true power of music
The Dragon is my favourite Vangelis album. The times I’ve spotted it have been on those nifty two-for-one deals with Hypothesis being the other album. Both of which were albums that never got the get-go from the Greek Maestro himself and obviously never meant for public consumption....but boy am I glad someone thought otherwise
Erpland eh? I love that one. Perhaps my fave alongside Waterfall Cities. The latter is one I’ve been spinning a lot lately. I love the mixture of what almost sound like Goa trance music together with the acoustic instruments. I know a fair few who hate this album and blame the production...which I can sort of relate to and then not really. I feel the meeting of what at the time was highly contemporary production values and those acoustic elements made the sound pop even more than usual. Also helps that the tracks are brilliant

Steve: looks like I’m for my first live album from Dungen. Can’t wait

Jim: There's a good one of Floyd's Dogs, the guy was digging the lyrics as if it was gangsta Rap. I sure would never make that comparison :P

Steve: That sounds awesome! A bit like Tangerine Dream's Sessions I imagine, but much shorter. I wouldn't mind having a live album with their "normal" songs though, there's a lot of great live videos on Youtube, like the KEXP concert I sometimes go back to.

David: I think I heard that Itoiz album once but I didn't jump on the New Wave wagon yet.
Oh cool, you actually sent the package? I wasn't sure. I still have to get back to you on that email.

Banda do Casaco - Também Eu (Had to give it a listen after mentioning it :P)
Kasabian - West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum (Thanks to my Hifiman I noticed that what I always thought was a traditional Chinese instrument on "Fire" was actually an electric guitar blended with a vocal track. So cool!)
Mansun - Six
Ozric Tentacles - Erpland (Thanks for the inspiration, Jim. For sure the safest way to travel these days ;) )
Colour Haze - In Her Garden (Chanelling some Popol Vuh into their heavy psychedelic sound, I really love it. Do you guys know it?)

Yep it’s in the mail
Alkolea is kinda new wave in that melodic art pop-rock of the early 80s type of manner but with a folky Andalusian touch to the proceedings
Just in case you go into the thing expecting some kind of post-punk album
Colour Haze eh? That may just be another one of those artists that only existed on my deceased external harddrive. I seem to remember listening to that album. Your description makes me miss it.

John Coltrane - Blue Train
Elephant9 with Reine Fiske - Atlantis
Dashiell Hedayat - Obsolete

Got myself a decent internet service (it's been over 3 years since I dropped it), so I'm free again to explore beyond my collection.
Toby Driver - They Are The Shield
Kebnekaise - II (Agitation Free meets Bo Hansson. Love it! :D )
Granada - España, Año 75
Itoiz - Alkolea (There's definitely some production similarities with "Também Eu", but it's a completely different album.)
Lindstrøm - Where You Go I Go Too
La Düsseldorf - La Düsseldorf
Hypnotic Floor - Foggy Bog Eyes

Nice selections there you guys. I am inspired to go spin some Can and LA Düsseldorf

Just got notice that my latest order is ready to get picked up
Looking forward to spending some time with Kate Bush’s first 7 albums, Die Wilde Jagd’s selftitled debut, Caribou’s Swim as well as Pond’s The Weather.
It will have to wait a bit as I’m currently visiting my folks and teaching the family cat about dangerous mice and Krautrock.

Hi Everyone. Having some fun this weekend by self isolating. lol.

Bill withers— Live at Carnegie Hall (1972) ( so much soul found in this music. It is amazing to listen to. “Lean on me” is a classic for a good reason. )

Psychotic Waltz— The Godless Void ( After a 23 year absence I truly say I am so glad these guys are back. This is an incredible album and their best yet. It my not be the most technical, however it is the most melodic. Not a single week track on this album. I’m gonna be spinning this one a lot and the album artwork/ presentation is nothing short of a amazing. Audio quality however leaves a lot to be desired though. Not a fan of Jens Bodgren. Don’t like his mixing or mastering. The music just sounds like it has been sucked through a vaccum. :(

Nick Cave & the bad seeds— live at the KCRW ( just a raw and gorgeous sounding live album. No overdubs and mixed by Bob Clearmountain. Need I say more? :)

Til Tuesday— Voices Carry (1985 debut album from this underrated 80’s pop band. Aimee Mann is an incredible vocalists and she plays an amazing bass too! :)

Lacuna Coil— Black Anima ( This Band is up to their usual tricks and they sound great. I bought the limited edition 2cd media book with the Tarot cards and it just adds wonders to the atmosphere when listening to this album. )

Ozric Tentacles— Jurassic Shift. ( closed out the night with this one. The bass is exceptional on this album. A vibrating dreamscape. :)
Gimmie my headphones now!!! 🎧🤣

Yo pappa-san - I hope you’re doing good and preferably sleeping better

Nice Ozrics pick. I’ve been digging those guys lately. In fact they were part of today’s program:

Ozric Tentacles - Waterfall Cities (can’t help spinning this wonderful meeting between space rock and Goa trance)
Nick Drake - Five Leaves Left
Simple Minds - Sons & Fascination
De Lorians - s/t
Ochre - Lemodie
The Band - s/t
NOFX - Heavy Petting Zoo
Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac - s/t
OMD - Architecture & Morality
