I swear it is a master plan of his...  pile on it so thick and heavy everyone just becomes numb to it.

Yet can we imagine any ONE of these weekly occurances happening under past Presidents.. he even makes Nixon look good in comparison haha

You need to watch this footage. WUSA9, the CBS affiliate in Washington, actually found spent canisters of tear gas as they filmed the crowd being dispersed. And these were OC and CS tear gas canisters -- the real Banana Republic/Iron Curtain riot gear -- not the pepper ball tear gas the Park Police claimed to be shooting....

oh yeah.. that's been all over the news here obviously.

what has caught my attention is less here in DC.. but elsewhere. In particular Buffalo

Like someone.. I think David..  mentioned in the RIP thread.  Floyd's death is not likely to be in vain. Perhaps this does mark a long long LONG overdue turning point. Make one patch of systematic racism.. who think nearly killing a elderly 75 year old man is.... f**king acceptable. A whole cell of bad cops if you will..
erased.. and good riddance

and I hope it is but a start...

That also turned my stomach, along with the George Floyd footage.

It's ok the aliens are watching. It's only a matter of time before they intervene. If they are going to blow up the white house like in independence day(the movie)then they better hurry up. Wink

To anyone thinking this will bring any change, just 3 examples of many:

Margaret Stoneman Douglas
Panama Papers
Jeffrey Eppstein

As was the case with these, it'll burn itself out. Guaranteed

The Panama papers got burned because someone used them to roll up some mighty fine Panama Red.

Oh the schadenfreude .   At least we're dealing with our problems openly and honestly.   Look at your own country and turn the mirror around.

Jeffrey Epstein ??   What the hell are you talking about?

^ I'm talking about ridiculing people who are trying to seriously work out centuries of racism.   I'm talking about taking a twisted pleasure in that, and as an excuse to not look at one's own culture.

Why, what did it sound like I was talking about?   I thought I was pretty clear.

David is too nice a guy.. so let me jump in.  You tell us what problems..  you don't mean to say you don't have them.  To David's credit he isn't posting inane sh*t about issues. .and a country he is not familiar with.

I saw the Nipsy guys post this morning and had a reply in the chamber and the safety off but decided to eject the round..

he needs to read more and opine less..  ask questions? sure.. don't lecture us on problems we know we have. You ain't finding no one in this thread that thinks our sh*t don't stink.  This country reeks right now .. and we know it better than some punk overseas does.

he has rubbed a few the wrong way over the years hahah

that said.. while I have you dear..

so what is your .. and the prevailing hot take about the US reduction in forces over there. Defintely seen here as a idiotic move... but what about you all over there.

Having lived almost 12 years here, I would have lots of reasons to be critical towards the US, as Micky knows all too well. However, I don't find it productive in the least to put down a whole country that is going through a very difficult phase of its existence - especially when not having a clear insight of why things are the way they are. There are many decent people here (one of them, whom most of you don't know, left us for good a few days ago) who are doing their best to steer the country back on the right track, and don't deserve this constant sniping.

Yeah... I'm watching this for some time, too, and as sharp and justified some of his (her?) remarks are, I also think this is not a tone in which to write about a different country. I know loads of decent intelligent Americans, and there's surely a thing or two we Europeans can learn from you.

My father told me today about how in Germany know they're demonstrating against racism, which is fine, because people need to be aware of racism everywhere and they need to do something about it... but they were demonstrating in front of the American embassy as if this were an American problem and not a German one, which is ridiculous. In the last place I lived in Hamburg I had black neighbours who said they want to emigrate to London or New York because there's less everyday racism around there than in Germany (that's 15 years ago; they then went to London but I haven't met them there... not sure whether they would have changed their mind about the US in the meantime). Probably because there's still a bit of fear and collective memory reminding the Germans of Hitler and how the country ruined itself like no other by such thought, the racist far right nowadays in Germany still commands lower percentages of voters than elsewhere, but believe me, if at any point they have enough people behind them, they will be worse than anything elsewhere, worse than Trump, worse than Salvini, worse than Putin, worse than Bolsonaro, worse than Orban, probably about on a par with Kim Jong-un. Because if the Germans are good at one thing, it is doing something in the most ruthless and consistent way anyone can imagine...

having lived in both the USA and Germany for over 20 years I have to say that while it's true there is some racism in Germany (there is in any country, by the way) it is nowhere as blatant as in the USA

Kind of ironic coming from the country that tried to exterminate the Jewish people.
Sorry, racism is everywhere, pointing the finger at someone else only helps with denying your own.

There's been cases of black sportspeople who have left Italy because of the unrelenting racist attitude of some people. It hurts me a lot when I read about it, but there's no point in burying your head in the sand. All over the continent there is also a lot of prejudice against people from other European countries - one of the reasons why the EU project is in such jeopardy now. Sometimes, when I feel truly pessimistic, I think that racism and xenophobia are the default mode of humankind, and that tolerance and open-mindedness need to be learned as early as possible.
