I think having the original group back would be a little bit creepy. |

Hi,
Not sure that we will find another YES album out there other than the usual re-releases of America and other bits and pieces ... but all in all ... I really think the band needs to hang it up! I would only want to see another album if the original group could get together for another TFTO like thing, or maybe something like a RELAYER ... but not for another "hit". I think their time for a "hit" is long gone, specially now that even Steve Howe, has something to say about Jon.

Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

I'm not sure what that weird emoji was all about but my last comment was obviously a joke.

I'd like to see another album from Yes, but I'd hope that it would offer more variety than their last one. I do think there's good material on Heaven & Earth, but pretty much all of it is of the soft and slow sort. I'd like to hear some songs that pick up the pace and have a little more of an edge, but I'm not sure that Howe would be even remotely interested in going in that kind of direction at this point.

Maybe a Yasia. Just wheel off Carl Palmer, bring on Jay Schellen and Davison and you get a twofer. Yes are not the best they can be due to the Howe / Anderson non alignment. And this is the nexus of interesting creative writing. Covid 19 has put paid to the endless self-tribute status as well as anything else... Either they open their eyes and put their septuagenarian brains to work and use the web to their advantage or retire. New Yes live albums sound more of a retread / threat than the promise of anything emotionally / intellectually stimulating. I hope for the best but now expect a lot less. That is not how it should be, nor how it should end. |

For what reason? Is there really anything that the current band could offer and it would not sound stale and boring? I love Yes and I do not want to see another Yes album... There's enough fantastic material to enjoy!

That's an interesting suggestion. My own suggestion would have been that they should have done Fly From Here with the original Drama line up followed by a few live shows. The set list should have been the Drama album in its entirety plus the bulk of Fly From Here, and this should have been recorded for a live release. After that they should have put the band on hiatus until a different line up, perhaps one with Anderson and Wakeman, was ready to pick things up again and record new material. |

I simply don't like the current lineup. I wouldn't stand anything coming from them, not another Heaven and Earth (even though Chris Squire was still around when it came out).

I remember reading something when Fly from Here was originally recorded about Horn advising Benoit about how to sing the songs, and Benoit himself telling him that Horn should be singing them... but it seems he was rather unsure of himself and saying that Benoit sang them beautifully. It seems he later changed his mind and got to practicing so that he could do the Return Trip thing. In principle, if they were going to bring Downes back, it would have made sense to bring Trevor back to sing too, but once hearing how beautifully Benoit sang the album, I can only prefer his job on the songs. On the other hand, yeah, it might have been fitting to have Downes (and perhaps Horn, if he had been up to it) to play their old unrecorded 80's songs, but I think it would have served them better to do so as invited guests, and leave Oliver as the official band member for the rest of the album and for, well, later on. How about Fly from Here having been the side A suite with Downes and Horn, and the rest of the album what has now become "From a Page" with Oliver in the line-up (plus perhaps, the song Into the Storm, which I do like too). |

Well, at least Downes (and Trevor Horn) had a history with the band, and some unfinished business. I am very glad that they got to finally record Fly From Here in the studio 30 years or so after it was first written. However, they should have done it with the exact Drama line up in the first place, like on this more recent "Return Trip" version. My own speculation to why they did not do that, is that Howe wanted to do big tours and Horn did not. Howe's desire to tour all the time is also what drove Anderson and Wakeman away. |

WTF, not yet another live album ![]() This is exactly what I was talking about above, these old bands just touring endlessly and releasing live album after live album without having any new material to show for themselves. This is imo precisely the problem. I don't mind live albums as such, but the ratio between live albums and studio albums is soo skewed. In the 70's, bands used to make several studio albums between live albums, nowadays it is the other way around. Edited by SouthSideoftheSky - September 05 2020 at 07:37 |

I agree very much. Howe took control of the band and tried to turn it into Asia Redux or something. By firing Ollie, he forever alienated Wakeman, to his everlasting discredit. Anderson said he'd come back, but it won't happen. I hope they drift away into the sunset, playing "Roundabout" over and over and over.

I can hardly think of anything I would enjoy hearing them play live, unless perhaps they might play something from Heaven & Earth, which for some reason they haven't, and I believe it might benefit from a live version. |

However, Yes would be much better if they got Anderson back, and Oliver as well, if they can't get Rick. I really think they messed up sacking Oliver for Downes. |

Maybe not a new studio album, but how about a new album of live material?
