^ Maybe it is time they were resubmitted? There is an entirely new prog metal team now, and we have already reevaluated some previous rejections (and have a couple more on our plate at the moment). A previous rejection certainly doesn’t mean it is impossible for a band to enter PA. It just makes it a lot harder, as it required unanimous approval, rather than majority. (This, to me, is a very stupid rule, if the teams have entirely changed, and/or if a band has released further albums or eps since the rejection. It is a handicap that isn’t fair, in my opinion, and I would much rather see resubmissions be on an even playing field as new submissions.)

I remember this band's flirtation with PA very well. They were suggested in June 2011, after the release of their debut album 'Awakening', and some quite lively discussion followed, eventually resulting in an evaluation by the Prog Metal team in August 2014 (based on their first three albums). They were unanimously rejected in pretty quick time in the end though, which was pretty much as expected if you read the comments posted by the various collabs who contributed to the thread.

Haven't listened to their latest album yet, but will do so tomorrow.

Great website you have there Steve btw. I'll be looking into a few more of your recommendations over the coming days. Thumbs Up

Hi there David. Really nice to hear from you, and thanks very much re the kind comments on the site.

I think Winter In Eden should be here, and I read the thread you placed a link to just now. Once Ivan got involved, and especially if he got involved with blue and red typo, then that was that, really. That thread really does sum up why I went off to set up my own site, and I should have done it ages ago. In my case, the final example was D’Virgilio, Morse, & Jennings, three pretty famous people in the world of prog, who every single prog music outlet in the world had reviewed, excepting Prog Archives.

I think a lot of people who visit PA looking for new music would love Winter In Eden. I also think a lot would love Moon Halo, who are inexplicably not on the site, and from a PM I know were discussed but not deemed progressive enough.

Anyhow, it is what it is.

A wonderful and very moving video, Steve. Thanks for posting it, and also for your efforts to help these poor stricken people.

Nick's post is, as usual passionate, erudite, well argued and factually correct. Please believe me, I could hijack Steve's blog on this subject, but I won't.... all I shall say is, we should have a workforce of 60 to cover the county, but we presently have 25 with couple on long term sick. Because we don't have a fully staffed team, 90 year olds are sleeping in hospital corridors and paramedics have created their own permanent car park outside A&E.

Oh, without doubt, care workers (particularly those in the public sector, like Cherish, rather than the private) are woefully underpaid. You have to have a real passion to help people to want to do the job, because for what is required, the financial remuneration is abysmal. Pay freezes have been in place for years, meaning a series of effective decreases in real pay over the years. Even worse, at the moment, is that what is paid per mile of travel has also been frozen for years, and with petrol at an all-time high, the job is simply too expensive for some to do.

Cherish routinely does one and a half to two times the shifts she is contracted for, because due to a combination of covid and rising prices (with no accompanying rise in pay and/or travel allowance) a lot of carers have had no choice but to change career.

She is exhausted and depressed, and doesn’t want to be doing these extra shifts, but (as she says) who else is going to do them? It is heartbreaking to think of the people out there who are relying on care workers, who are stretched and exhausted.

One of my wife’s best friends is a midwife, and she is in the same situation. Pay has never been great compared to the workload, and has been frozen for years. Due to covid and rising prices (and no accompanying rise in pay) a lot of midwives have had no choice but to change career.

So the people who need help most, at the beginning and ends of their lives, are still having their needs met, but by an increasingly stretched and exhausted few. It can’t go on like this, and at some point it won’t. Cherish and her friend couldn’t ever imagine doing something else, I’m sure, yet both have been seriously wondering how long they can keep it up.

Without kicking off a political debate, I would support a huge pay increase for all workers in our care sector, who are disgracefully underpaid, imo. As an unpaid cater, I know what it takes to do this job.

My wife works for Cambridgeshire Council as a re-enablement care worker, but she is paid for her hours, regardless of whether or not she works them all. That said, it’s not that she doesn’t go to work, so much as sometimes she has less calls, so is able to finish early. I joke about her being paid to sit and watch Netflix.

Being a Care Assistant, I find the prospect of not going to work and still being paid, a bit more problematic.. Embarrassed

I was going to add top albums of 2013, but time defeated me tonight. However, before I upload that in the next couple of days, there is the Ale of the Week on the Beer & News Page. On the same page, but in the sports section, the finest try you will see in your life, quite incredible from this last weekend. And there is a book review, Field Work by Bella Bathurst.

As if that wasn’t enough, new Video of the Week which is by Julie Fowlis.

Goodness me, that takes me back... I remember seeing her in Southport (of all places) over 20 years ago, when she was touring that album.. Star

I love me some Judie Tzuke. Saw her and her amazing band live at the King's Theatre Glasgow in May 1982. Great show. The Sportscar album's title track is fully fledged jazz rock in my book. I think her daughter is also a professional singer?

Yes, she is, and a very good one as well. It is her voice on Bully and her name is Bailey.
