I never heard of this band!  Bassist was John Glascock, ex-Jethro Tull member!

A-Z of Space Rock

AHKMED    A three-piece outfit who come from a land down under, where women glow and men plunder, and beer does flow and men chunder, at least according to legend. Ermm

AGUSA    Thanks for introducing me to this amazing Swedish band in the smorgasbord of Space Rock. Agusa are cosmic! They're like a bright shining supernova in the vast spacetime continuum.

That's great news. Agitation Free's final Live album, Shibuya Nights, is the best album to emerge from Japan since Far Out, in my view. Smile

You are quite a fine person, and I am very fond of you. But you are only quite a little fellow, in a wide world, after all.

A-Z of Space Rock

AGITATION FREE
A virtually unknown band (outside of Germany) at the forefront of the Krautrock movement and surely one of the finest Space Rock bands this side of the Milky Way galaxy. This versatile band also have a jazzier side too, which you can hear on The Other Side of Agitation Free, before their ultimate magnum opus, Shibuya Nights: Live in Tokyo. Clap

ABSOLUTE ELSEWHERE    We're travelling back in time now In Search of Ancient Gods with this absolutely fabulous sci-fi concept album from one Paul Fishman, based on the other-worldly books of Swiss author Erich von Daniken, who believes the Earth was once visited by ancient alien astronauts.

Fifteen years ago, I was still listening to Hawkwind, believing they were the only Space Rock band in existence, but I've travelled a long way across the galaxy since then and discovered there's a whole new universe of Space Rock out there, just waiting  to be explored and unearthed. I'm planning to add all of the spacey artists you mentioned - eventually - and with that in mind, I finally got around to adding Amplifier to the listings at the top of this page today. Now it's just a question of somehow finding the time to listen to their seven albums, but I'll be sure to turn up my amp when I do. Smile

Thanks for this!  Fascinating explanation....I often considered ADII's "Wolf City" to be the equal of British albums of the era by Yes, ELP etc.

you are very welcome cstack3.  I agree with you. my passion for AMON DUUL 2 is one of the reasons I started SPACE PIRATE RADIO in 1973.  my best to you.

10,000 RUSSOS
In the currency of Space Rock, 10,000 Russos might be a high price to pay, but if you're a fan of this Portuguese band, then 10,000 escudos (about £40) may be a price worth paying for their entire discography.  Smile

Upon listening to many of these samples, I realize that my own taste in space-rock seems to run to the German flavor - lots of drenched synth, tons of tablas (how and when did the Germans adopt tablas??), conventional instruments used unconventionally etc.

One of my all-time favorites:

7% SOLUTION
An American band whose music is All About Satellites & Spaceships, although in reality, 7% Solution are earthbound in Austin, the 11th most populous city in the United States, the 4th most populous city in Texas, the 2nd most populous state capital city, and the most populous state capital that is not also the most populous city in the state. Wacko

3rd EAR EXPERIENCE
A Californian band with a studio located somewhere in the remote Joshua Tree National Park in the Mojave Desert, although their spaced-out music bears no relation to U2. Only four out of seven full album links currently available, but four out of seven ain't bad (to paraphrase Meat Loaf). Smile
