Usually the lesser pick of the core 7; it always seems to fall between this and "Question" for many. Having said that, I find much to enjoy here like Story, Our Guessing Game, After You Came, You Can Never Go Home, and the fantastic My Song! I've always ascertained that Pinder was the secret ingredient; when he left, they lost me tbf. All 5 were great songwriters, but in terms of song preference I would rank them as follows: 1. Pinder 2. Hayward 3. Thomas 4. Edge (he composed all poetry bits and 1 song to boot) 5. Lodge (resonated least w me)

I kind of feel like they lost something after Pinder left. LDV was great and had some of his spirit on it imo but after that they seemed to have declined rather rapidly. Hayward had the most distinctive voice in the band but I think all of them offered great vocal harmonies at least. My favorites of the core seven are probably ToCCC and OTTOAD with AQOB and DOFP right behind them. They are all great though. I kind of agree with you about EGBDF though and my personal top seven would maybe swap that out for LDV but nothing really against EGBDF I just find that Emily's Song and Nice To Be Here bring it down a little bit. The latter sounds like a children's song actually.

Voyager is another good one no doubt! Ditto on the highlight and I would add One More Time to Live as well. Procession is typical Edge material and doesn't hurt the album imo. The rest works as an album (may it be a short one but I digress) |

I actually like One More Time to Live because it sort of picks up where procession leaves off imo. It kind of brings the vocal part of that to a conclusion. Then again I like it when themes are repeated in albums. For me if I was going to pick a third one that I don't like as much as the others it would probably be Our Guessing Game or maybe After You Came even though I like the heavy guitar in that one. I think after TOCCC all their albums had at least one (and sometimes two) songs that didn't quite work or were a bit weaker. On AQOB it was and the tide rushes in (definitely the weakest on that one even though it appeared on their compilation album This is the Moody Blues). On SS it was When You're a Free Man. Nonetheless I maintain that the Moody Blues have possibly the best deep tracks of any classic rock band. I haven't heard Octave though and am in no hurry to get it. ;)

I guess I can do with One More Time to Live at the expense of You Can Never Go Home ![]() Have to admit, The Tide, Hare, and Minstrel off QOB never did anything for me. As for SS, I personally adore When You're a Free Man and think it's the best song on the album. SS itself doesn't even sound like the Moodies but a band hanging by a thread. Every song (minus the side 2 Hayward punch combo) sounds like a last hurrah lol
