^That wasn't the reason I used 1980's Rockabilly-revival as an example. I don't think they were ever considered New Wave either. But they've were linked to Post-Punk in retrospect because of their updated punk attitude to their Rock 'n Roll. Anyway... I think you got the point of my original comment. Essentially I reacted to Psych Pauls list of "favorite new wave albums 1980-1990" because the second half of the decade felt short on actual New Wave albums. If one's not an expert of underground obscurities, or deeply into late to the scene-countries from behind the Iron Curtain or something like that, there's very little albums out there in that period that aren't better described using other labels than New Wave. (New Order were probably some kind of New Wave till 1986, but most of the rest here had either polished and commercialized their sound or gone alternative rock in one way or another). I'm not certain what I'm discussing anymore. |

I don't think I liked anything that was called 'New Wave' that much. The original British punk scene was interesting because it had so much energy. At the time (1977) this was The Sex Pistols, The Damned, The Stranglers, The Jam, The Motors, The Clash (what was all this having to have 'The' before the name?!) etc. Then a bunch of other stuff surfaced that was supposedly more interesting but generally not. I liked some of the electronic bands that came out between 1980 and 1983 (OMD, Gary Numan, Visage) Ultravox started out earlier with John Foxx so can't count them.
Virtually the only albums I purchased that could possibly be included were Tubeway Army - Replicas and Simple Minds - Sparkle In The Rain (both really good). At the time I was busy collecting classic prog albums so didn't spare much thought for a lot of this stuff. Always thought that IQ's first 2 albums had a bit of a punk meets prog feel to them and some of the guys in the band were sporting a punk influenced spikey hair look! |

New Wave albums which I bought on vinyl back in the eighties, when I didn't always make the best choices.

For right now, I'll say "Robert Fripp - Exposure"
I used to play bass in several new wave bands, let's say I'd had enough of that!

I know how to make popping sounds with my mouth. Or, am I confusing this with something else?

I'd never have thought of them as New Wave but great they were (also Martyn Bates' solo work).

I doubt the user who asked about "poppers" had that in mind.

That's the ONLY meaning the term has when popper is in the pural. The way it was asked it's obvious to me that's EXACTLY what was being implied ![]() |
