^ I've never been to Nottingham's Bier Keller (or the Boat Club), even though I live close by, but if I did go, I'd only be there for the music and not for the beer.
![]() Speaking of Nottingham, here's Hawkwind Live at Central TV Studios on Lenton Lane in 1990 ![]() ...And Gong at the same venue in the same year, as part of Central TV's Access All Areas series. Edited by Psychedelic Paul - February 14 2025 at 04:16 |

I'm not too sorry about Nik Turner leaving Hawkwind, bearing in mind his dozen solo albums are just as good as anything Hawkwind's ever done. Here's another Nik Turner classic from the archives. |

I love the vocals on The Zodiac: Cosmic Sounds. They remind me of Master of Horror Vincent Price, and just when you thought it was safe to emerge from behind the pillar, here he is on Joan Rivers' chat show with a real Thriller. ![]() ![]() Edited by Psychedelic Paul - February 13 2025 at 08:48 |

I see 'Agitation Free' and 'Ash Ra Tempel' being mentioned. When going through a krautrock binge, I encountered these bands though wasn't a big fan of the former. Ammon Du was originally a collective, I think, over which an 'Ammon Du II' band formed up whose work I listened to. But unfortunately, I preferred more the sounds of bands like Can, Faust, Kraftwerk,Harmonia over them. One notable exception is 'Yath Sidra - A Meditation Mass'. That's quite a contemplative album and I liked it very much on my recent listen. It makes for good background or a kind of meditative music [much like Deuter from Germany as well though his work was more ambient and Indian focussed than space-rockish]. The Zodiac-Cosmic Sounds has a very interesting and layered quality to it though the vocals are abominably bad. IIRC, they are more spoken than sung and each song devoted to one constellation or something. I personally believe that it would have worked more better as an all instrumental album much like the works of Mahavishnu Orchestra.

Well, Nik Turner RIP and he never resolved the rift with Brock. He left the Mothership for good in 84 after rejoining in 82. Yes he was a founding member.

I listened to second and third albums by Hawkwind today. And the second was brilliant. Master of the Universe is as brilliant a song as any. I listened to it thrice in a row :p. The opener 'You Shouldn't do that' seemed like a good jam as well. They are apparently still making music though I am not sure how their latest[36th?] album is compared to their peak. 'Yes' comes as a comparison. After their peak in 70s and early 80s, their latter day albums don't compare to the original greatness. Add to it shuffling members. Nik Turner and Dave Brock have always been original founding members, right?

Too right! There's no finer band than Hawkwind to represent the Spirit of the Age of Space Rock. ![]() |

I am re listening to Hawkwind [I never completed their discography last time I started]. Their debut was decent enough with couple of good songs [And of course 'Hurry on Sundown'] but it still pales in comparasion to what comes next. IIRC, Hawkwind was one of the pioneering bands that defined the concept of 'space rock', right?

A-Z of Space Rock
ALRUNE ROD The Danish Pink Floyd! Alrune Rod featured in the concert film Stoned Days in Thy where "Thy" refers to the Thylejren music festival in 1971 - the Danish equivalent of Woodstock with a reported audience of 30,000, representing a huge crowd by Danish standards, where 30,000 was roughly 1% of the entire population of Denmark at that time. So if you want to hear some astounding sounds and amazing music, then why not dip into the Psychedelic Rock of Alrune Rod to discover what the rest of the world outside of Denmark has been missing out on all these years. And the best place to start? Live Aalborg 2002 without a doubt! It's as tasty as a Danish pastry spread with Lurpak butter. Do you want jam on it? Well, you've come to the right place, as Alrune Rod are one of the best jam bands you're ever likely to hear, having been compared with the Grateful Dead, only better! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

The post started with Brainticket and I have heard both Cottonwoodhill and Psychonaut by them. One of them [I forget which now :p] was distinctly better than the other. Either case, didn't the original LP came with a written text asking listeners to "consume/listen it in moderation".
