It was between Present, Art Zoyd, Nuova Era and Porcupine Tree. I voted for the latter in the end. I’ve had a good long break from Porcupine Tree, so reintroducing myself to their psychedelic years has been wonderful. Love the phase from Up The Downstair to Signify - including stuff like Metanoia, Moonloop and Voyage 34.
Regarding the Nuova Era; I vividly remember getting introduced to them, and this very album, by way of PAs Italian MP3 offerings. I absolutely loved the track and then used years - heck a decade trying to find the album n cd ![]() Btw love most of those 1965 releases as well but feel they’re somewhat out of the prog scope of this site. Herbie’s Maiden Voyage though is breathtakingly beautiful. |

IQ for me. I was very depressed and fed up in general with life and the horrid state of rock music at the time but then IQ come along with this raw almost punk like approach and kicked some life into the dead genre. The Wake still remains for me one of the greatest post 70's prog albums. IQ have a few actually but I will have to get over just how weak their latest effort is (although still better than 99% of what is out there, even on auto pilot they are still somehow great)

I almost included Metal Fatigue for '85, I'm sure it would have got some votes. |

Yeah buddy! The organ is nasty on this one, great Italian vocals too. A 5 star record in my world. I got their new one and only the keyboardist is left, but I'm looking forward to it. |

Such a dark album that takes me places. And I agree an absolute top tier record for me as well. The last of their chamber styled albums before going more into electronics. Great pick! |
