To be honest, out of all the "official" subgenres on Progarchives, there is at least one album in each category that I like.

Indo-Prog/Raga
Krautrock
Zeuhl

I wouldn't even know what key albums would be good 'jumping off' points as an introduction to those subgenres.

I like this approach for the direction this thread could take: offering helpful "jumping off" albums for sub-genres with which people might not have had successful entry experiences.

I have had more than a few successful "access" experiences while using more modern albums attributed to the sub-genre: Jannick Top's Infernal Machina, Magma's K.A., or Guapo's Five Suns for Zeuhl;

both Electric Orange and Cosmic Ground helped me find an access point for the whole "Krautrock" sub-genre;

while Shakti had been my entryway to what I later came to know as "Indo-Prog/Raga" though André Fertier's acclaimed album Mixtus Orbus was also helpful.

I agree! I like very much the way each individual album gets its own genre assignation on M@x's other website, JazzMusicArchives.com: this seems very respectful in acknowledging an artist's room and freedom to grow and try new things.

Yeah, this is a big problem with PA. If one day I release an album, I don't want my entire group to be labeled as that specific album genre.

Hi,

AND, this has really helped in listening to a lot more things ... and appreciating them.

I can see the need for the various genres and such for fans, however, in the end, the variation on many bands really show that a lot of bands are not tied to a genre, but to themselves, and at least, on JMA this is very clear, and you might find someone with several albums in two or three threads, but at least you have a good idea what you are hearing.

Again, the only thing that is strange is that you and I will always find a listen that does not fit here, there, or somewhere ... it's the nature of the arts, anyway, but at least we know that things are easier to find, as opposed to have to listen to the numerical thing by various folks, and ... always go ... gosh, I had to listen to that to evaluate it? Or my one bit ... listen to the first 5 or 6 of them, and ... goodness ... I'm done listening for today! I have not had that issue on JMA at all!
Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!
