Mobland
Somewhat starry cast that is perfect for this Guy Ritchie series that focuses on Pierce Brosnan's and Hellen Mirren's over the top Irish gangster couple who even seem to hate each other! Both were also in the 1980 British film The Long Good Friday, a film that Ritchie sites as a big influence on his film making. This accidentally (or deliberately?!) expolres similar themes to that movie (Hubris, the world order changing, the old being replaced by young blood). Totally addictive and brilliantly acted drama. More seasons to come hopefully.

The Better Sister
Amazon just dropped all 8 episodes without the usual hype so this must be bad then? Nope, it's actually one of the most bingeable shows I've watched this year. Stars Elizabeth Banks and Jessica Biel as the 'sisters'. Banks' character is so called 'trailer trash' who gives up her young son to her sister (played by Biel) due to her own negligence and alcholism. Then everything blows up yeraas later when the boys father is seemingly murdered. Intriguing twisty plotting, extremely well acted by Biel and Banks, but some fine support also comes from the likes of Cory Stoll, Matthew Modine and Kim Dickens. Deserves better than its 7/10 on IMDB.

Enjoyed The Wheel of Time scenery and sets and Rosamund Pike and cast were good imho...I also had trouble following the plot lines.

Done with Last of Us because they killed Pedro Pascals character...he was the main reason I stayed aboard since Bella Ramsey just doesnt carry it well enough for me.

Watching the new episodes of Poker Face ....love Natahsa Lyonne...funny and quirky as hell.

Just watched the season end of "SurrealEstate"....love the weirdness of the show...but I really like supernatural shows which are all guilty pleasures for me.

Andor was great....loved Luna's peformance

One does nothing yet nothing is left undone.

Your Friends & Neighbours Season 1
Sharply written tale of murder and greed starring Jon Hamm. It never veers too much into 'dark humour' and respects all its characters. I liked it very much. IMDB's rating of 7.8/10 is about right.

All done with The Handmaid's Tale. I'm glad it's finished tbh and the ending was a bit feeble, but overall an excellent watch.

Anyway there is more of Gilead to come: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt10970762/

The Penguin
Colin Farrell buried under a mountain of latex, but you wouldn't know. Make up department take a bow. This is a very impressive psychological drama/origin story from HBO utilising the DC/Batman universe but going utlra-realistic rather than comic style action. IMDb rating of 8.6/10 seems spot on.

Rewatched season 1 of one of my favourite shows Resident Alien. Alan Tudyk (Firefly) is totally in his element and should be winning awards all over the place but we know the general industry disdain for sci-fi. This is so good being dark, funny and moving with fantastic characters and brilliant engaging story lines. Nothing better out there imo.

It was actually cancelled after Season 1 before becoming one of the most popular TV dramas ever and virtually becoming the advertising 'hook' for Netflix as it rose to world dominance in the streaming world. My take is that it perfectly balances very believable family stuff with an excellent crime drama as well as memorable characters and even more memorable moments (no spoilers but wait until you get the end of Season 4)

Enjoying Stick the Apple TV show about a washed up golf professional played by Owen Wilson who happens across a young lad with a serious talent for golf who he believes he can help guide to greatness. This is always going to be chock full of cliche but the casting is spot on and Apple does this sort of stuff really well.

White Lotus - season 3

Like the series overall, quite entertaining, but found this season less so, especially the finale episode. Stories and characters were promising, but I thought the writing was shallow and uninspired. An issue I have with a lot of newer shows. What is going on with writing teams that have such great actors and can't produce compelling dialogue that draws out substance. Even the brilliant Walton Goggins seemed like deer into headlight on this series. Never seen him used to so little memorable effect.

The Diplomat - seasons 1-2

Highly entertaining, much better than White Lotus although not even close to The Americans, which was the last vehicle I saw with the enchanting Keri Russell. Russell and Sewell were perfect for the material, a political power couple with a highly complex set of problems. I hope there's more to come on this one.

Severance Seasons 1-2

I really enjoyed this on Apple TV. It's one for fans of things like Black Mirror, with a disturbing take on technology and its impact on corporate work culture. It starts as a black comedy but gets progressively darker as it goes on. Ben Stiller is excellent, and it's very much his project, and the cast also features Patricia Arquette and Christopher Walken, both veterans of True Romance. It looks like there will be a third season, which will hopefully maintain the standard.
'Like so many of you
I've got my doubts about how much to contribute
to the already rich among us...'

Robert Wyatt, Gloria Gloom
