yezz, do you like it?

I'm a muchos biggos fan of Monolake and Autechre! I found those as talented as any prog rock band, but I discovered this very recently. I hated electronic based music for a long while, but then I became more and more acceptable.

but there's some lesser known techno/tech-house producers that's also very good:
M.R.I.
Rod Modell
Yagya
Theorem
Marc Leclair
Ferenc
Triola
Rene Breitbarth
Fluxion
Marko Fürstenberg
Markus Guentner
Maurizio
Rechenzentrum (atleast the first album)
Vince Watson

I've got feedback. No, it's just complacency.
Beats and sh*te.

I hear emptiness
The unpassionate echo of  dissolute generation.
Clean
Purile.
Uninpulsive, programmed.
Dead
dead
DEAD.
The volumes of excess
The tomes of nothing.
The tones of an engineering,
The tunes of a bankrupt generation.

Take "your space".
and ram it up your...
interpretation.
Here I'm shadowed by a dragon fig tree's fan
ringed by ants and musing over man.

By contrast, I find WWH's reply informative, helpful and amusing.

As much as I'm all for being democratic, I have to say that response was 100% valid as techno is awful.

You don't need to hear 100% of any style of music to be certain you like or dislike it. Hell you haven't heard 100% of all prog, yet you are an admin and forum moderator for PA so obviously enjoy it Ouch

I have a good friend at college who listens to techno all the time basically, and I think I'm in a position to say that I think it's rubbish. The guy who posted all those comments about it, caught the essence of techno in one post. Awful.Dead

I always like it when people mistake their opinions for fact, it's highly amusing. Most of the time the ire gets directed at hip-hop, good to see another genre get the ol' prog-snob treatment for once

Thanks for the recommendations, I think Autechre is one of the most forward-looking musical groups around regardless of genre. I'll check out some of the other names you mention.

I think these two artists are more "IDM" than simple four-two-the-floor-techno - (the name "Intelligent Dance Music" is misleading as in fact it's much more for homelistening than for dancing):

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intelligent_dance_music

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:IDM_musicians

In Fact, RIO and IDM are more or less my favourite music styles, separate from classical music.

Here are some of my favourite IDM artists and Albums:

Aphex Twin (Album: "The Richard D. James Album)

Mouse on Mars (not a special Album...)

Frank Bretschneider (especially the "Curve" and "Rand" Album)

ConseQuencE (the "GedankenRauschen" Album)

Cyclo (= Alva Noto and Ryoji Ikeda: The "Cyclo" Album)

Pan Sonic (the "Vakio" Album)

Gramm (the "Personal Rock" Album)

AGF (=Antye Greie-Fuchs, Album "Westernization Completed")

Some other Electronic Albums I like much are Kraftwerk's "Die Mensch-Maschine" (or "The Man-Machine", if you prefer the english version) and Pete Namlooks "4-Voice" - simple 4-to-the-floor Oldschool trance but sounding very impressionant!

At labels like http://www.tonatom.net or autoplate ( http://www.thinner.cc/releases.php?label=apl )

you can download many IDM and ambient albums for free (and legal)!

That Autechre sounds really interesting. I think I'll go and check them out.

It was only a matter of time before I discovered them (just started to listen to IDM yesterday).

Is Tri Repetae a good place to start?

Nils Tentacles, I will have to check some of the Artist on you list, most of them go right over my head.

I have been listening to this quite a bit lately:

German techno with female vocals, probably tending towards the IDM side of things.

I seem to tend more toward the grime and dubstep side of this sort of music. Really been enjoying many of the artists off the 'Planet Mu' label.

I really like the first three albums by Autechre, which includes Tri Repetae. that one be a little harsh and "metallic" at times. I'd go for Amber or Incunabula if you want something that leans more towards ambient.

Black Velvet >> I've heard a little of Ellen Alien, but didn't really get into it. any specific album you'd recommend by her? maybe I just started off with the wrong material.

The closest things I have to Techno are M83's Dead Cities, Red Seas, and Lost Ghosts, RJD2's Since Last We spoke, and The Postal Service album. Not to say I don't like the genre just fine, it's only that I don't have any of it.

I can't tell you how they fit in with the techno world, but I enjoy them! (Especially the M83 album!!)

Incunabula or Amber are the most traditional and accessible - they are great but these days they sound pretty conventional to my ears. Tri Repetae might actually be my favorite of theirs, but make sure you get the "++" version as the additional disc of material is equally good. They have a different sound on this record than the early stuff.

Their later stuff is much, much more challenging, more about pure texture and sound than conventional rhythm or melody. Try Confield for starters, but it might be easier to get into the mid-period stuff first: EP7, LP5 and especially Chiastic Slide are all great!

I have Thrills and it's not bad... I hear Berlinette is better, I'll have to check it out.

Anyone heard the Burial album? Dubstep record that got best record of the year honors from The Wire. I haven't quite figured out what I think about it yet.
