Don't worry James. When you reach a more mature age you'll no longer worry about such things. By the way you were only partially correct. John Shuttleworth was another character alongside Jilted John, not the name of the guy behind him. I know because I remember both. That age thing again.

My old buddy Neil (who recognises that it's possible to be Pop AND have talent) although a late entry, is definitely looking like he can wee higher up the tree!

The problem is, he doesn't look out for giant hogweed when he's doing so...

Respect!
I thought Sophie was great in theAudience, they were easily one of the best indie bands of 1999 - anyone who can release singles like "If You Can't Do It When You're Young, When Can You Do It" and "A Pessimist Is Never Disappointed" is okay in my book.

How is the old hogweed situation in Blighty? Still inundated or have the herbicides caught up?

Oh I knew Jilted John wasn't John Shuttleworth, they're separate characters. |

Wherein lies the whole crux of the matter in The Shed.

I saw a giant hogweed in the poisonous garden at Alnwick last week. It was in a cage and had just been severeley pruned. The guide was familiar with the Genesis song as well.

Exactly - they look so innocuous, exactly like a smaller cow-parsley, so the young plants are easily overlooked until they are large enough to kill us with their hogweed hairs... when in doubt, kill everything green, just in case! |

I can't remember the names of the protagonists, Rach, but there was a NICE representative on BBC breakfast News yesterday, together with representative of some organisation (again, cannot remember names...) set up to support those in this exact situation.
Even though I was annoyed at the support group's spokesman for constantly talking over NICE's talking head & not allowing him to fully answer (this is something I absolutely hate in interview situations), it was clear from the very start that NICE were on extremely thin ice when it came to justifying themselves - unfortunately, this only served to fuel the other chap's indignation, and it was clear the interviewer suddenly got an urgent instruction to terminate the segment. |

I agree, I hate people talking over the top of others in interviews, however, (and please understand I didn't see it) if I was on a limited time span due to some fella's accountancy I would probably talk over him too, unfortunately time is something that these people no longer have thanks to the money crunchers from NICE.

The problem is that there is always going to be a finite budget and unless we want 80% income tax or similar the NHS cannot give every available treatment to every single person who may (or may not) benefit from it. I don't necessarily agree with those people in NICE but I certainly wouldn't want their job; it's a no win situation for them whichever way they decide because someone will always be disappointed.

Another thing which annoys me (I don't think I should take this to The Ranting Room yet) is if someone is in a position to pay for a particular drug & does so (thereby saving an already stretched NHS £1000sss), they then lose all entitlement to free treatment from the NHS for that illness.
I know the arguments about setting precedents, ending up with a two-tier health system etc, but it just seems so bloody unfair. |

Yeah I kind of agree with Neil too though, I certainly wouldn't want to work for NICE, tough job, it most be hard driving to work each day in a company car that is roughly equivilant in price to saving TWO or more LIVES!!!
How could you sleep at night knowing that if you sent our car back you could keep someone alive?
Sadly, my car isn't worth enough to save my mother's life. So we're just down to hopes and prayers.
Ok, not the time or place I know, I'll keep it out of the Shed!
ON the good news front, the "Nick Barrett signature Guitar Picks" have just arrived! woooohooooo!!!!

well said Jim - this peaceful haven for our damp trousered wrinkly tabloids is a place to chill and mistily mull over past epic times, even if the memory is a little blurred, it doesn't do to spoil lifelong cherished memories - if you want to argue go to Jim's ranting room, or if you want to fight go to VR
