Only one? In that case I'll say King Crimson's Lizard. If I can choose another then it would be Jethro Tull's Benefit.

Herbie Mann? Miles Davis? We're going back aways into the early 60s, where everything gets hazy.

Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson

1961 was a pretty good year for my favorite jazz solo artist. Here is my Top 5 of that year:
John Coltrane - My Favorite Things John Coltrane - Ole Coltrane Thelonious Monk With John Coltrane – s/t Miles Davis - Someday My Prince Will Come Oliver Nelson - The Blues and the Abstract Truth Edited by enigmatic - August 07 2023 at 08:26 |

I have a long list of albums in front of me from 1959 - the year I was born, but there's nothing that really stands out for me, simply because they're all a bit before my time, in just the same way as I never watch movies made before 1959. I guess I would choose a 1959 album by Les Baxter & His Orchestra though, seeing as I have 32 of his albums on CD. I'm much more in tune with the music of the sixties, especially the Summer of Love year of 1967.

^ I was too young to remember any album that came out the year I was born, but I guess this poll is not about what you remember or not. You must have a list for reference, Paul...? Mine would be: ![]() |

I'm a fossil, born in 1955. I pick Miles Davis "Blue Moods."
Lots of good classic jazz to pick from!

A quick look on PA and RYM prog lists, I couldn’t find a single album I’ve even heard. I requested help by Google and found a couple that I’ve actually listened to and enjoyed: Metallica - Masters of Puppets Europe - The Final Countdown Metallica came in my teens, but Europe I listened to as a kid. We had that album on cassette tape. There surely has to be more good music made this year, so maybe I should explore a bit. Edited by Zeph - August 06 2023 at 23:21 |

So many of PA's top albums from 2001 are prog metal I haven't listened to. There's Yes' Magnification, which I think is fine, but the album I like most from that year is Estradasphere's Buck Fever.
