The singer from Os Mutantes sings in spanish and it sounds great. |
As Os Mutantes is brazilian, would he not sing portuguese?

I love singing in native language. For example: - Péter Pejtsik/Judit Andrejszki from AFTER CRYING - Francesco Di Giacomo from BANCO DEL MUTUO SOCCORSO - Aldo Tagliapietra from LE ORME - Andre Balzer from ATOLL - Christian Decamps from ANGE - Marc Meryl from ARACHNOID

Thumbs up for Francesco Di Giacomo (Banco del Mutuo Soccorso) too. I really like how he uses his voice. |

I think that there are much more foreign good vocalists than english. Italians, for example, are better singers as a general rule. French are better as well. Talking about english speaking vocalists only Gabriel, Andersons, Hammill and Lee come to mind immediately.

And...this Lee in which band does he sing..., cause there is this one Lee that sings in a band called Rush and...well, lets say he is not in many favorites lists!
Harmonium singer is great! So is PFM´s!!! and Loccadas also!
|
I meant exactly this one - from Rush. I know he is not to everybody likings, but I find it strange - great singer all in all. David Surkamp is also a great one - absoluitely unique voice - no one ever tried to copy him (as opposed to Peter Gabriel) - his Edit Piaf's vocal intonation really do it for me; and again too many prog-amateurs do not like him.
Anyway - the way this thread is going seemingly proves my point .
And, after serious consideration I can call Francesco Di Giacomo being my favourite non-english singer.
Also someone mentionned guy from TMV - wholeheartedly agree - awesome voice, and this chap from Deus Ex Machina - a bit histerical, but we have to give him his credits - he is sooooo good.

I don't know whether Cedric B-Z (the guy from TMV) can be considered non-English. He's Puerto Rican, which means at least technically American, and very probably bilingual. That said, I also find him an extremely good singer. Geddy, as everyone should know by now, is one of my heroes, and I love his voice (especially nowadays) to bits - but then he's not 'foreign', as he's a native English speaker.

Demetrio Stratos (Area) is definitely my favorite.
Also:
Serge Fiori (Harmonium)
Topi Lehtipuu (Höyry-Kone)

Of course Geddy Lee is native English speaker - no question about it. I mentionned his name among the few English-speakers which come to mind immediately when talking about good vocalists - few as opposed to countless "foreign" singers.

Di Coccio - PFM
Aldo Taglapiestra - Le orme.
They're softer than most of us are used to associate with great singers, but I love them.

I'm so happy to see that someone knows and appreciates the late, great Augusto Daolio from I Nomadi. They're only marginally related to prog, but they were (indeed, are - they're still very much active, though with a different singer) a great band, one of those I grew up with in the '60s. In some ways, he was even better that Francesco Di Giacomo - who, as you all rightly said, is all too often forgotten in best-vocalist polls.
|
I think as a vocalist Augusto Daolio is far from perfection and can't be compared with Francesco Di Giacomo. But Augusto was a great, charismatic, person, as I know the audience loved him. I Nomadi and Banco present different sides of rock, but both are great in their own way.
BTW I like I Nomadi albums with new singer, Danilo Sacco, too.
