Neo Prog Britannia
QUANTUM PIG A strange name for a band, but you can take a Quantum of Solace from the fact that this London-based Neo Prog band sound much better than their name might suggest. Quantum Pig are like a bright ray of sunshine in a grim industrial northern town - not mentioning any towns, obviously, but you can find them all in the book below, if you fancy something to idle your time away with. There were simply too many towns to fit them all into one book, so there's a sequel too, titled Crap Towns II: Back by Unpopular Demand. ![]() ![]() ![]() Edited by Psychedelic Paul - June 30 2023 at 07:39 |

Neo Prog Britannia
PROTOS A long-forgotten instrumental one-album band from Chichester who disbanded and packed away their instruments after a final gig in 1984, but then, much to the surprise of everyone - including themselves - their 1982 debut album became an overnight success over the course of the next 25 years and so, One Day a New Horizon beckoned and they made an amazing comeback in 2007 with not just one album, but two - one studio and one live album. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Edited by Psychedelic Paul - June 26 2023 at 08:43 |

PRIMITIVE INSTINCT Some say Primitive Instinct are just apeing Marillion (especially the Hogarth era), but in the nebulous world of Neo Prog, that's a positive recommendation. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

PENDRAGON Believe in the awesome power of prog with Pendragon: The Jewel in the crown of British Neo Prog and one of the "Big 8" Neo Prog bands - the other seven being:- Arena; IQ; Magenta; Marillion; Pallas; Solstice; & Twelfth Night. In The World of Neo Prog, Pendragon don't need to Kowtow to anyone. Their line-up has remained pretty stable over the last four decades with the ever-present vocalist and guitarist Nick Barrett leading the way, backed up by keyboard wizard Clive Nolan (a man of many bands), the Bible-thumping Peter Gee on bass, and a revolving-door line-up of drummers over the years, both Past and Presence. The marvellous music of Pendragon represents Pure Passion, power and glory. so why not open The Window of Life that is Pendragon, where Love Over Fear conquers all. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Pendragon - The Last Man on Earth (a tribute to the Moody Blues) from the album: The Window of Life Edited by Psychedelic Paul - June 26 2023 at 02:15 |

PALLAS Scottish wonder boys Pallas were one of the first Neo Prog bands to Arrive Alive on the music scene in 1981 with the release of their debut live album. Three years later came their stunning magnum opus - The Sentinel - a science fiction concept album about a technologically advanced civilisation that brings itself to the brink of destruction, despite The Dreams of Men hoping for a better world. Sound familiar? The third Pallas album would drive The Wedge between those fans who wanted to hear another classic prog album and others who wanted a more modern sound. After all, this was the 1980's, so there's no accounting for taste. I know how we like to constantly Beat the Drum about the merits of prog here at PA and some of us even Live Our Lives from Moment to Moment every day in the progosphere. Like me for instance. We all have The Cross & the Crucible to bear in trying to convince prog non-believers they don't know what they're missing out on in life, but We Are Who We Are, and sadly, some non-believers may be destined to remain in The Blinding Darkness and be forever ignorant of the joyous wonders of prog until The Edge of Time itself..... Pallas prove that it's not all bagpipes, haggis and sporrans in bonnie Scotland, although certain members of the band have been known to wear a kilt on stage. Och-aye, they do. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Edited by Psychedelic Paul - June 23 2023 at 03:15 |

MARTIN ORFORD Keyboard player Martin Orford is Living Proof that there's life after being a member of a major Progressive Rock band. Prog fans will know him best as a founder member of IQ until announcing his departure from the band back in 2007. Martin's also worked with increasing Frequency with John Wetton and Jadis too and in The Wake of leaving IQ, he's created one of the best Neo Prog albums you're Ever likely to hear - "The Old Road" - even if you have some Resistance to Neo Prog generally. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

IAN NEAL One of the great unsung heroes of Symphonic Neo Prog. I'll let Ian Neal's glorious and magnificent albums speak for themselves, suffice to say that this is the most Immaculate Collection since Madonna's Greatest Hits compilation. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Edited by Psychedelic Paul - June 21 2023 at 05:07 |

Nth ASCENSION Blackpool Rocks! Nth Ascension are a little-known Neo Prog band from the seaside town of Blackpool. Be warned though: the earnest, overwrought vocals of Michael Alan Taylor are an acquired taste. They should appeal to fans of Gentle Giant or Van der Graaf Generator though. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

CLIVE NOLAN & OLIVER WAKEMAN Nolan & Wakeman perform three epic rock operas that are simply stunning in their design, concept and delivery. You'll believe in the awesome power of prog when you hear the Grand Wizard and the wizard's apprentice united together in a collaboration made in prog heaven. This is the best partnership since Burton & Taylor, Bogey & Bacall, or Marks & Spencer. Clive Nolan needs no introduction by now and Oliver Wakeman follows in his father's footsteps with some masterful keyboard wizardry worthy of the caped crusader himself. Enjoy! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

CLIVE NOLAN The Grand Wizard of Neo Prog presents six epic albums of rock opera with a cast of characters longer than the biblical epic: Exodus (1960). Yes, it's England's answer to Ayreon! Clive Nolan has the singular distinction of being the youngest ever musician (aged 16) to gain a diploma at the prestigious London College of Music. The prodigious number of bands Clive's been involved with over the years reads like a veritable Who's Who of Neo Prog:- Arena; Pendragon; Shadowland; Strangers on a Train (with Tracy Hitchings); Caamora (with Agnieszka Swita); Casino (with Geoff Mann); and Nolan & Wakeman (with Oliver Wakeman). No doubt it would cost a King's Ransom to own Clive Nolan's entire discography, so why not sample some free Hidden Treasure that Clive has sprinkled with his invisible touch of keyboard Alchemy on YouTube. It's magic! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Edited by Psychedelic Paul - June 19 2023 at 15:48 |

Neo Prog Britannia NEON LEAVES A radiant Neon Prog band to light up our lives from the Geordie Shores of northeast England. Neon Leaves are currently signed to Flicknife Records and I think you'll agree this luminescent band are a cut above the rest. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Neo Prog Britannia MR. SO & SO Another stonkingly good Neo Prog band who may have passed you by. Mr. So & So were an impressive band right from the get-go, but they were about to get a whole lot better in the new millennium when they reunited with the angelic voice of Charlotte Evans adding a nice delicate feminine touch to the band's sound. It's on the band's fourth album though where they really let rip by ramping up the amps to eleven (ala Spinal Tap), or is that just a combination of Truths, Lies & Half Lies? You be the judge. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Edited by Psychedelic Paul - June 15 2023 at 08:18 |

MORIA FALLS The spectacular rise and fall of Moria Falls, where it's not so much a Long Goodbye, but more of a quick hello and then they were gone. After all, who remembers Moria Falls now? Their magnificent debut was everything you could ask for and more besides from a Neo Prog album, but their sophomore album didn't quite live up to expectations and somewhat falls by the wayside in comparison with their debut. Even so, Moria Falls' second album sounds like the kind of album Genesis could only dream of making in the 1990's and Moria Falls are still the most exciting thing that's ever happened in the sleepy town of Hemel Hempstead. ![]() ![]() ![]() Edited by Psychedelic Paul - June 16 2023 at 02:38 |

Neo Prog Britannia MOBIUS A half-twisted Mobius strip is an abstract mathematical concept embedded into three-dimensional Euclidean space, and so it is with the band Mobius, whose music twists and turns in endlessly complex and multi-dimensional ways, designed to amaze and confound the listener in equal measure. This is Neo Prog, Jim, but not as we know it, and I can confidently Make the Promise that Mobius' 5-star album sounds like no album you've ever heard before. ![]() ![]() |

Neo Prog Britannia MERCY TRAIN A curious crossover between New Wave, Alternative Rock & Neo Prog, that's the unique sound of Mercy Train, so if you've ever wondered what Duran Duran, Oasis and Marillion would sound like all shaken and stirred together, they sound something like this. ![]() ![]() |

MARILLION A band for your Friends & Family too... Marillion are the most popular and most commercially successful Neo Prog band of all time - bar none - with a career spanning over forty years - or five decades if you prefer. Marillion sound like the kind of band Genesis might have been in the 1980's if it wasn't for Phil Collins' ambitious dreams of pop idol stardom. Marillion's long discography spans two distinct eras:- The Fish Era: 1982-1988, and The Hogarth Era: 1989 to the present day. Marillion bravely went where no band had gone before with their New Wave of British Progressive Rock (or Neo Prog) often being credited with giving a second life to older established prog bands, although You & I know that's just Smoke & Mirrors and there was never any danger of prog dying out like the dinosaurs - or is that just a case of Anoraknophobia?
