I thought that Fanfare For The Common Man was supposed to be the saving grace of this album...? It isn't really helping. Agh! Why did I spend that $2!?

Works 1.

Emerson's side - third movement is pretty incredible, the first is uninspired, and the second has a really pretty piano solo, IIRC.

Lake's side - I actually really like most of it, Closer To Believing and C'est La Vie in particular. There is one awful song on it, IIRC.

Palmer's side - pretty damn awesome. Food For Your Soul and the Invention in D Minor are classy.

Group Side - Fairly good. Like Pirates, though it fluctuates a bit, and the lyrics are doubtful. Like bits of Fanfare, but could do with a neater synth tone.

yeah.. I feel your pain Mike.  Of the four sides... personally I only found the Palmer side to be worth anything past a 2nd listen.

I think that Works 1 is one that you have to be in the mood for.  I find the Palmer side to be pretty awesome, and I like Pirates and Fanfare.  Greg Lake's side is good for what it is: Lucky Man, Part Deux.  Emerson's side is one that I have to be in the mood for.  Piano concertos are not generally my favorite form of music (sorry Rico).  I love the piano and keyboard as accompaniment with rock music, but alone I find it somewhat boring; but again it is based on the mood for a day.

I find all of this material listenable, but it is just oozing with overconfidence. LISTEN TO OUR MUSIC IT IS THE BEST MUSIC THAT EVER WAS MUSIC. Most of the tracks have been between forgettable and just plain bad (most of Lake's side). Not my kind of album, unfotunately.

hahhaha.. yeah... I have thought about reviewing that... but instead... think about doing Love Beach instead.  Looking for inspiration to get into reivewing again... maybe some exploration into the freaky non-melody sh*t LOL will provide some inspiration.  I'm not a natural writer like Raff is.. I really have to have something either repulse me.. or totally grab me to do a review.  It doesn't help that I have told myself that I won't review the 'big albums' from the big groups unless I thought I could add something that hadn't been touched on in five to six hundred reviews hahha.  I thought I did with CttE.. but that was stretching it.

Micky, the albums that you would be good at reviewing/should be reviewing are the ones that have special meaning between you and Raff.  Those are the ones that the words will flow easily for and make for interesting reading, rather than the usual review by numbers type reviews.
