Indeed but I think Banks distanced himself from the 'prog thing' around the Wind & Wuthering time. Shape of things to come, I guess. ![]() |

Actually, the little winkie was meant to convey a little side-swipe at popular opinion. ATTWT isn't bad - a bit regurgitated, but Duke is a great Prog album, IMHO, and even Abacab has stuff that's a bit proggy.
I can't say what Banks thought, but his keyboard playing on Duke is among his most bombastic and flambouyant.

I would like to have Green Jelly removed. Their debut album was nothing but juvenile cartoonish humour that was augmented by reprocessed rock riffs that made one smile once you figured out that they weren't anti-meat activists when they sang The Three Little Pigs.
That & I wold like removed all those who strt inane & barely disguised Phil Collins / 80s Genesis / Dream Theater / Classis Rock hate threds for no apparent gud reason. And I need a new speel checkr. |

Oh, and the people who get upset over inclusion in the prog-related category. In for a penny, in for a pound. Once you start comparisons, you can't deny some if others are in already ... hint hint hint

In my opinion Iron Maiden is a perfect example of a "prog related" band. Iron Maiden's Steve Harris is influenced by such bands as Genesis, Yes, Jethro Tull, ELP, Gentle Giant, King Crimson, Pink Floyd etc, and you can definitely hear that when you're listening to certain Iron Maiden songs. For example, Phantom of the Opera, Prodigal Son, To tame a land, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Alexander the Great, Seventh son of a Seventh Son, Sign of the Cross, Dance Of Death, The Legacy and many other songs are very progressive. And I wouldn't remove any prog-related band from PA. Although I don't understand why there are so many jazz fusion bands in here... Some of them sound very progressive though. |

I agree. Kate Bush can never leave PA.
The Doors, Led Zep, and APP have to go. Queen can stay because they were the most consistent and most enduring classic rock band to form in the 70s, aside from Rush and Aerosmith (Classic Rock, Not Prog Rock)

I would remove all the 70's bands completely. Half of them were never prog in the first place and the other half went adrift sometime in the 80's. Then everyone else I'd move into prog-related, except prog-metal, which I'd merge with symphonic-prog and rename as power-prog. Any ejected band that wanted to get back in should be forced to produce a brand new prog album now, from scratch and not by re-hashing old material and tired concepts, and when they fail I'd put them into pronto-prog.
![]() of course all this would be a diversionary tactic that would allow Interpol (now renamed Interprog) time to catch the miscreants who where putting PA Admin team in this life threatening situation.

I'd remove the entire Proto-Prog and Prog Related categories if I could. And divide Prog Metal into several subgenres.

I still insist that Green Jelly do not belong here. Their album Cereal Killer is an insult to all grain related food by products.
![]() P.S. Oh, & I'd get rid of all the subgenres & set up a more simple division - Prog , not-Prog. That way we could include non-prog bands in their own section without going through the trolling attacks as to why King Crimson are not prog, but Uriah Heep are. You have not heard the soundtrack for "maximum Carnage", a marvel-comics videogame with music by that amazing band..... Green Jelly deserves a spot here...
![]() ![]() I'd remove King Crimson. I think their prog affiliation is ambiguous at best. Actually, if you take all the prog elements out of their songs, you have pretty normal... songs.
