THE BALLROOM     Would you care to dance? Another Time maybe.  It's not strictly ballroom though. The Ballroom were a  Sunshine Pop quartet who made joyous sweet music together, which  consisted of L.A. producer Curt Boettcher, along with Jim Bell, Michele O'Malley and Sandy Salisbury. Curt Boettcher later went on to form the close-harmony supergroup The Millennium in 1968, hence the album title, Preparing for the Millennium. Smile

MARTY BALIN    (1942-2018) Broken Heart      A singer/songwriter originally from Cincinnati, Ohio who shared the stage with Grace Slick as lead singers in both Jefferson Airplane and Jefferson Starship. You may recall Marty Balin performing with Jefferson Airplane at the disastrous Altamont Speedway concert in December 1969, when a member of the Hells Angels motorcycle gang (who were meant to be providing "security" at the concert) mounted the stage and punched Marty unconscious. Ouch! Ouch

ASHES featuring Pat Taylor      A Sunshine Pop band from Burbank, California, featuring the honeysuckle-sweet voices of Pat Taylor and Barbara Robison. After this short-lived folksy foursome blew away like dust in the wind, the Peanut Butter Conspiracy arose out of the Ashes. This charming album may not have changed my life, but it's surely brightened up my day with its sunny Californian vibes.  Smile

AZITIS     Orange groves and treasure troves.... Azitis were a psychedelic Christian Rock band from Citrus Heights, California, but this sun-blessed album of religious supplication is no lemon. This obscure  hippie brethren only gathered together long enough to record this one plangent paean to Mother Earth, so I'm guessing they didn't make much of a prophet. Tongue

ARS NOVA     Not to be confused with the Japanese band of the same name, Ars Nova (literally "New Art") originated in New York City and later moved to the land of Sunshine and Shadows in L.A, where they signed up with Jac Holzman's Elektra Label. Paul Rothchild - legendary producer of The Doors - was hired to produce their first album. Ars Nova also supported The Doors at the Fillmore East in 1968.

THE AGGREGATION     1968: A Mind Odyssey first entered our consciousness the same year as 2001: A Space Odyssey, but whereas Stanley Kubrick's epic sci-fi fantasy explored the endless depths of outer space, Los Angeles band The Aggregation explored the inner workings of the mind. So turn on the lava lamp, light up a joss stick and get ready to explore those cerebral final frontiers as we go on a mind-boggling psych trip to the centre of the mind. It's worth knowing that The Aggregation were one of the few rock bands to perform regularly at Disneyland, where fantasy becomes reality, or is it the other way around. By the way, all of the songs on the album are a cryptic reference to the aforementioned amusement park, so prepare for a wild ride! Smile

AFTERGLOW     Come on baby light my fire! Afterglow were a Psychedelic Rock band from Northern California with a sound that conjures up the warm smell of colitas rising up through the air. Their acid-tinged music is very reminiscent of The Doors, Jefferson Airplane and the Byrds. The band only stuck around long enough to record one incandescent album, but you can still bathe in their Aftergow over half a century later. Smile
