Hi everybody im new to this site but not to prog. I've been looking for this kinda of society for quite some time and i hate my self for not googling progressiv rock any faster I am 19 years old and simply crazy about music its my passion. (rather blind than deaf) I have finnished colledge and got accepted at something called MGK which is a preschool to the various music conservatories. So i work and practice alot of drums which is my instrument. At the second month of this preschool i meet some cool guys and formed a band where we mainly played jazz which i really like but not that good playing it :P We sat down and talked about music (smoked some weed also ) and we decided to head towards this genre that is sooooooo wide and contains so many elements! Progressive Rock. (Got alot of bands dropped by my father which i thank him very much for!!!!) I am a guy that CANT STAND: techno, X-factor concept, Gansta- rap = (it's more who has the girl with the biggest ass, that guy will get more views = more money = I made good music lol) Im sure i will learn to ignore these things some day but Denmark is just a country driven by Mainstream music and commerciallism.
Mike Oldfield, King Crimson, Gentle Giant, Tool, Gavin Harrison, Mew, Pink Floyd, Zappa.... some of them
But the one question i ask myself everyday is: Do i want to be an educated drummer eventually playing for somebody whose music i dislike just so i can earn money? Listening to prog makes me want to create music that in first hand i like and then if some other person likes it he/she becomes more valueble. 10 Tool fans > 1000 Metallica fans because they sold out and made music for the audience not for them selves in the first place.
This is just some of my views and im looking forward to share them and expand my knowledge.
Violetfork
and sry for my spelling

Welcome to the site. Always great to see another Dane sign in.
...and come on! The music cultur in Denmark isnīt all about mainstream and commercial music. I mean! we have Nick og Jay .
I donīt know if you know some of the Danish prog and prog related bands around, but Iīd recommend Alrune Rod, Burninī Red Ivanhoe, Secret Oyster, Afenginn, and if you enjoy progressive metal the sole album release by Behind the Curtain is also pretty interesting.
The education thing sounds interesting.

We obviously disagree about what makes Metallica move, but a warm welcome anyways Cool to have more Scandinavian drummers.

You can loan releases by all the bands I mentioned through the Danish library system, so you wonīt even have to make "risky" purchases

Yeah I know, but that's not selling out, that's being lazy
Yes as a matter of fact I do, but a non-gigging non-recording one at the moment. A pretty young group where I've only played a couple of months. I also drum for my own solo project in which I play everything else as well.
