Hi all! I have been a log time lurker on this website, oh for about 2-3 years. Just finally got to the point where I have exhausted my musical search. I often use Last.FM, Gnod Music, and this site to find music I like. Unfortunately it feels as though that search is at the end. As far as music is concerned my taste does seem to very however usually I do not like growling/screaming, and I usually I do not like instrumental only. There are always exceptions as I have listed below. In general I like to listen to music doing pretty much everything I do. At work I usually listen to the Classical Music Station or I stream ambient trance, or post-rock. In the car I'll listen to Above and Beyond, Myon and Shane 54 podcasts. Or I'll listen to my rock music. I even listen to some Hip-Hop. Below is what I like, and don't like. If you recommend something I will place it on this list after I have listened to it. Music I like: -Rush - Obligatory I LIKE RUSH COMMENT; anyways I prefer their older albums much more than their new stuff. Fly by Night to Permanent Waves to include the song "Subdivisions". -Chevelle - Not really progressive, but every album is different, and at least they keep making music. -10 Years - Same thing -Tool - I prefer Lateralus/10,000 days to their earlier stuff. I know that I will be crucified for this but oh well. -The Mars Volta - This band is ridiculous. I like pretty much every album/song except everything on Octahedron. Edit-This includes At the Drive-in but does not include Antemasque. -Rishloo - Probably one of my favourite bands my favourite songs are "Dead Rope Machine; Landmines; Freaks and Animals; Narcissist Code; Terras; Fames" -Prisma - Pretty interesting I like all of their music -Soen - First album was better than second but still a good solid sound. -Blatherskite - Icarus is ridiculously good. -Riverside - Good in short stints, but a little too mellow for me. -Sleeper's Awake - Very surprised at how much I liked these guys. While I generally don't like growling it was very tastefully done, and I felt it actually made the music better somehow. -Ceterum - Along the same lines as Sleeper's Awake not too bad pretty good. -God is an Astronaut - Usually don't like Post rock but these two bands I'll listen to when I need to relax and mix it up with my ambient techno. -Explosions in the Sky - Usually don't like Post rock but these two bands I'll listen to when I need to relax and mix it up with my ambient techno. -Children of Nova - While the voice gets old sometimes the instruments are nice to listen. -Karnivool - These guys are good, but only in short stints, much like Children of Nova. Music recommended to Me: Seven's Impale - Jazz, rock, good vocals major tempo swings just plain fantastic. Bands I don't like that have been recommended to me: -Devin Townsend - Too hard -Coheed and Cambria - Cannot get into it -Dredg - Don't like it -Isis - Not enough singing too much screaming. -Meniscus - Same thing. welcome to the site! Interesting tastes you have and always nice to NOT see another Genesis or Camel fan join up. We have enough of them already.   what do mean by 'too hard' for Devin Townsend? I listened to each of the five solo albums that he produced, and for the life of me could not get into them. I understood what they were, and how good they were, but for me it was too much, the voice was too hard, and heavy. Just not for me.
Is it funny that the album that was supposed to be the most similar to traditional rock was their most boring album? Also, it is a shame about Antemasque, that punk sound I do not dig.
So I apologize for the slow response, it just takes me time to process music, and this music truly takes time to process. Although on the first couple of listens it is pretty good, sounds similar to Frances the Mute. Currently working my way through their other music.

Now that was nice. They obviously were to your liking then :-) As I recently saw them live, I can vouch for their abilities in that setting too. Should they ever play near you, they are well worth seeing on stage. If you hit youtube and search for a band called Thank You Scientist you should find another little gem of interest. Ey - try At the Drive In. See if they can ease you into the punkier/hardcore side of Cedric and Omar. Antemasque isn't as strong, nowhere near, but if you haven't heard Relationship of Command - you're losing out. ------------- Crushed like a rose in the riverflow. |

I forgot to add them. I do actually like their stuff. Its a little more hardcore than I prefer, but still it has some great moments in it. ------------- If you are looking for new music might I suggest you look at the Top Ten Prog albums of each year? You're bound to find something amazing there. |

Hmm. You seem to be a shoe-in for a fan of the emo-influenced math-rock and post-rock. Kind of like Children of Nova. Is that your only exposure to the genre? ------------- Crushed like a rose in the riverflow. |

Youth Pictures of Florence Henderon - Youth Pictures of Florence Henderson This Town Needs Guns - This Town Needs Guns (EP) Minus the Bear - Planet of Ice (Not emo but more indie) Vessels - Helioscope Appleseed Cast - Low Level Owl 1 or Illumination Ritual These all aren't exactly like COV, but should help point me or you in the right direction. I am listening to them right now. Still trying to figure out if I can stand the singers voice. Musicality however is the poop. I love the sound.
So far my friend I have not truly enjoyed them. I would listen to them at work because they are very mellow and I feel like they don't require a lot of my attention. I greatly appreciate you taking the time to list all of these though. ------------- If you are looking for new music might I suggest you look at the Top Ten Prog albums of each year? Ah, yeah, vocals can often be a hit or miss. Going a bit out on a limb next. In the more obscure department there's an artist I personally enjoy quite a lot that blend in quite a few bits of this and that in his mostly instrumental escapades, where jazz and symphonic are main ingredients. Project from Denmark called Taylor's Universe. Not music for the masses, but one of those artists that are treasured by the select few. So I have listened to Thank You Scientist and decided that I will play them next to Children of Nova when listening to them. I have also now listened to Dream the Electric Sheep, and Opeth - Pale Communion both were outstanding! So much so I changed my signature to encourage others to find them the way I did. TTNG really just did not do it for me. Thanks once again for pointing them out towards me, its always good to listen to new bands. ------------- If you are looking for new music might I suggest you look at the Top Ten Prog albums of each year?
