Voting for Heart Of The Sunrise - both are phenomenal tracks, but there's something really special about HotS, and it's not necessarily because of Rick..........

Trooper for me...

Starship Trooper for me, Heart of the Sunrise is a bit too repetitive for me. However, I prefer both songs on alternative live versions. Starship Trooper is absolutley better on Keys to Ascension (with Wakeman stealing the Wurm solo from Howe), and Heart of the Sunrise sounds better for me on the ABWH live versions. I'm not so sure what, they just sound more powerful, specially the ending, both on vocals and drumming. However, I'm not sure if I prefer the first version from "An Evening of Yes Music", which is the version that sounds more perfect throughout, and that has the best drumming (specially at the very end), or the one at the NEC, which features Tony Levin on bass, and it shows, the bass sounds so much better, with more personality.

Right, this. The final section of Starship Trooper is one of the greatest moments in all of music.

My favourite track from each album and though I prefer The Yes Album to Fragile, this is an easy choice - Heart of the Sunrise is top 5 Yes material and gets the vote.

Trooper. Heart drags on a bit
------------- All I like is prog related bands beginning late 60's/early 70's. Their music from 1968 - 83 has the composition and sound which will never be beaten. Perfect blend of jazz, classical, folk and rock.

If I were asked, what Yes song contains the essence of Yes music, that gives as much as it can in one performance then I would point that person in the direction of Heart of The Sunrise. Every little thing is magic. The dynamism, the energy, the climax of the piece, the atmosphere, the performance is out of this world, it's got it all. Prog rock holiness this is why you and I listen to this music.
Starship Trooper is the stunning number from The Yes Album that convinced me of that album's merits. It is magnificent but Heart has... oh it's very subjective of course. But...Heart of The Sunrise.
Anyway who would be mad enough to not have both somewhere in their collection?

It's not the build, it's the repetitive heavy part that goes on a bit

Starship Trooper for me. Easily in the top 5 Yes songs for me. Loved it the first time I heard The Yes Album and have loved it ever since.
