I don't think Fish sounds anything like Collins although people say he sounds like Gabriel.

Genesis are definitely a big influence of Marillion. They admit it themselves.

I just listened to Misplaced Childhood...the first thing that made me think in "Kayleigh" was Collins...

My first thought was 'he sounds like Gabriel' but there's Collins in there, Hammill and no doubt a host of others. I still dont think he set out to sound like anyone other than himself, though.

Some of their music has a Genesis feel, but then so does IQ, Glass Hammer, Pendragon and so on... Genesis were a huge influence on many.

Apparently Dave Cousins of the Strawbs was also a big influence on Fish's
vocal style. I can definitely hear it on mid-Eighties Marillion.

Well, I've never heard that stuff, but the Strawbs were quite good in their
day. Really, really good, in fact. But Cousins' voice is certainly an acquired
taste.
