Are The Residents progressive? Not sure exactly what else they'd be called, insane, etc., just thought I'd see if anyone else is into them.

They are more Expiremental Rock, which falls a bit into the Prog idiom. I think Fred Frith has worked with them.

Why they're prog, well, I guess because in that very general sense one applies to any progger they've taken a fundamentally rock approach and worked into a more personal direction than more mainstream run-of-the-mill rock might typically be. They're very theatrical as well, anyone who'se seen them is only too familair with that element of them, probably more so than just about anyone.

If you like something with a pronounced twist to it, they might be worth checking out; most consider their stuff from the seventies to be the major recordings. 'Meet The Residents' is appropriately a good place to start.
