What is your favourite love song from a prog band? And from a non-prog band? I know Porg is not the genre with the msot love songs, but I think we can come up with some good ones!

i would say my personal favorite is nights in white satin from the moody blues, or love of my life from Queen, if you count that as progressive!

For prog, C'Est la Vies, by ELP.  For non-prog, probably something off of Maroon 5's first album...

I have some special memories from the time when I was first getting into that Blood on the Roof-tops song  apart from that: Cinema Show and Uriah Heeps Poets Justice. King Crimsons I talk to the Wind is quite sweet too but I dunno whether or not your'd call that a love-song.

That is definitely a great one.  Wyatt's vocals are outstanding on that track.

It makes me cry everytime I listen to it. Maybe because I remember a concert...
Well, not time for crying now :D
Beautiful song, however.

Elizabeth - Fruupp. Really, really beautiful. I urge everybody who doesn't know about this band check out this song now. And the most melancholic love song I've ever listened to may be as well 'Isadora' by Illusion.

Also, the BEST love lyrics ever are in Franco Battiato's "La Cura": How to express deep love and devotion without saying the worl 'love' nor writting 'sentimental crap' (yes, I also like 'O, Caroline' a lot )

I'm not sure that 'Closer to the Heart' by Rush and 'Blood on the rooftops' by Genesis are love songs  They are songs about how awful everything is, and how we should change it, in the case of the Rush song, or how we should just give in to it and get on with things in the case of Genesis..

Anyway, fave love songs..

Turn of the Century - Yes
Script for a Jesters Tear - Marillion
Ghost of a chance - Rush

Kayleigh - Marillion

Jesse - Janis Ian

Several songs mentioned so far I would not qualify as love songs (Shine on you crazy diamond for instance).

In the air tonight? A love song featuring the words "Well, if you told me you were drowning, I would not lend a hand"? I think not.

How about Onward or Turn of the Century?

For non-prog, how about God Only Knows?

for Prog, I'll have to think about it... so many prog bands do love songs so badly... but for non-prog:  Lionel Richie - Still In Love With You

Why, you ask?  Lionel Richie is simply the pinnacle of what writing love songs is about.  He's a natural.  No, he's NOT a natural at writing prog, and if he ever tried we'd probably all laugh.  But his love songs are legendary.

OK, for prog... I can't think of a song that would (1) qualify as a love song (2) by a certified prog band and (3) actually be good enough to mention.  Including all that have been mentioned previously.  I'll probably have to look through my CD collection to see.

Just for clarification, a song by a band/artist who USED to be prog does not count - e.g., "In Too Deep" is by Genesis the POP band.
