Random Album Clash #12! On a Wednesday, as always. This time the year is 1980 - some interesting things (and some not so interesting) going on in the spheres of rock, prog, and pop. Let's see who will take this one, I have an idea which album might be the forum users' favorite but I will keep it to myself for now!
So, please vote and tell us who you picked and why!

Here are all the winners so far:
1970 - 'Lizard' by King Crimson
1992 - 'Hybris' by Anglagard
1985 - 'Misplaced Childhood' by Marillion
2019 - 'Resistance' by IQ
1968 - 'A Saucerful of Secrets' by Pink Floyd
1975 - 'Fish Out of Water' by Chris Squire
2000 - 'Lightbulb Sun' by Porcupine Tree
1982 - 'Signals' by Rush
1995 - 'THRAK' by King Crimson
2005 - 'Deadwing' by Porcupine Tree
1965 - 'Rubber Soul' by The Beatles

I'm in no Rush to make Permanent Waves, so to avoid any unnecessary Drama, it's a Yes vote for me. Smile

First time in this series that there's no album on the list that I find really strong, although 1980 is not a weak year at all in my books. Never For Ever, Tangram, Familjespriktor, Colours, Sky 2, Gravity and many others easily beat all of these.
I think I'll go with Bowie here, Leviathan and Duke are OK as well, but...

Wow! That is random, but 1980 was a good year

I haven't heard Asia Minor or Journey.

It's kinda between Sabbath, and Genesis.....and Rush and Yes and Hawkwind..

I dunno, leave me out of this!!

Ok, ok I'll with Rush..no wait Genesis.

GENESIS IT IS!!

Permanent Waves is the only album in this list that I own, and the only one I'd really want to listen to.
Bits of Duke are OK.

This sucks!!!! So many to choose from; it hurts.
After some dice throwing, Yes over RRRUUUSHHHH over Mr. Gabriel, with APP, Asia Minor and Mr. Bowie in tow.

Quite a few goodies to choose from here, but my vote goes to Rush - PeW. Clap

Eloy's Colours and Sky 2 could have been in the list too, but even with these included my vote would go to Drama by Yes.

All good suggestions but I would stick to the format I used at the beginning which is 15 albums. Of course, indicating your favorites that I have missed is always welcome!

Not complaining, and you're right stick to your formula - the random thing is nice. I just mentioned two other bands that would probably beat the other 14 of your list on my personal top prog albums-list of that year. MMEB's Chance would end up high on my list too...

Would you consider it an interesting idea to contact on PM some of the regular participants in these polls and maybe ask for suggestions for a certain year, even for what year to go with next?

Yes - Drama.

^^ No, not necessarily. I like what you come up with and the fact that others add albums they were thinking of later in the thread makes it more interactive. No need to PM beforehand to bring up something "democratic" - you know, with personal musical preferences democracy makes not much sense...

You're right, I also think it works well as it is right now but I had to ask. Smile

My top five from this would probably be:

5. Rush
4. Yes
3. Iron Maiden
2. Peter Gabriel
1. David Bowie

And an honourable mention for McCartney II, which has no votes yet, and may well receive no votes at all. I know loads of people hate it, but it’s one of the few McCartney albums I like.

Yes > Rush > Genesis - These three are all fairly close for me.

The Return of a Friendly Duke Wavering between Heaven and Hell, Between Flesh and Divine, between Scary Monsters and Super Creeps. In that order.

I'd have to flip for either Rush or Yes, but I'm going to throw Dio-Sabbath a bone.

between Permanent Waves and Drama for me. I went latter because it still stands as a unique moment in prog while Rush were still on an evolutionary path.

Are we having a draw for the first time on RAC? Interesting, I can now reveal that I expected 'Drama' to be the unprecedented winner but that's not exactly the case. Can we have a winner 'til the end of the day?
