What is your biggest new find in the prog archives through the free MP3s? Mine has been Flower Kings. I don't believe I would have come across Flower Kings in any other way. Though I am yet to get any full album of FK-- the few MP3s have given me enough glimpse of what this band has to offer. Next would be Arena-- but Arena is not even close to FK.

Beggars Opera, with the album "Act One Beggars Opera"

I think, the mp3 is not the only way to find a new band with prog Archives (Some terrible bands don't have mp3  )

I prefer the critics and the notes, and the different genre of prog is a great idea to find bands.

Devil Doll

i'm 100% certain i wouldn't have heard of them if not for their page here, and would never ever have heard their music that made me go and get their full discography without hearing the mp3 sample here on PA (and the sample is actually a weak section for DD anyway)

now my fave band of all time.

Pain of Salvation and ACT, great stuff. I couldn't believe my luck the first time I discovered this site with the free sound clips! What a fantastic opportunity to discover new and old prog treasures.

Anekdoten, Echolyn and Glass Hammer. Had heard about them but never heard them. Oh, and Maxophone. This is a great site. The MP3s are a good selling tool as I end up buying albums of the people I like.

There's a lot of bands here I knew of but never really gave a thought about checking out until I came here (Genesis, Jethro Tull, Gentle Giant, ELP, and many other well known bands). At the time I only listened to some Yes, King Crimson, and Pink Floyd and some modern proggy bands like Tool and Radiohead.

Of course I also discovered many, many other bands in the process; everything from Neo-Prog to RIO, so I'm happy for coming here.

Your response is greatly helping me to trim down the long list of 'downloadable' samples of the bands. Obviously the forum puts up huge reviews and I sometimes feel quite lost at trying to find out "what band to try next". I hope this discussion is also helping others to find new recommendations.
