so many great albums in 1990, especially for metal, I will make a second poll if this poll gets some votes and discussion.
so choose, vote and comment, the usual. Have fun!

Our tastes have proved to be pretty different on many occasions already - I know a few but none of these is a top favourite of mine. The vote goes to Depeche Mode.

I have heard almost all of these, and own half of them. There’s a lot of groups I really love, but whose albums released this year were some of my least favourites by the band.
In the end, I had to go for Depeche Mode. Definitely not my favourite band from this selection (not even close!), but my favourite album from this selection....

Yes, Violator is a great album, but I'm hesitating between this one and Queensrÿche's Empire, their second best (imo, of course). The others, as far as I've heard them - about 10 - do not much to me. I don't think I ever heard the a-ha album in full; might try that one some day...
Oh, and the balance went in favor of Violator...

I can’t say Empire is my least favourite Queensryche album, because there are several I like less - but it is possibly my least favourite album of theirs that I own. I can’t deny that there are some great songs on it, but I think that’s also why it doesn’t work so much for me. It’s like they went out to write a bunch of songs that were individually very good, without caring too much how they hung together. So even though I might like individual songs from Empire more than individual songs from, say, Hear In The New Frontier, it is the latter album which I enjoy more, as an album. But I know I am probably in the minority for thinking this way....

the album tittle is strange. it's "Hear in the Now Frontier". Makes no sense to me. But it's a good album, I do enjoy Empire more though.

I know Emily Remler, I forgot about her.
Gong's album does not count since it's a live show from the 70s, so...
I've never explored Christian Vander solo, I might look into it.

I assume it’s meant to be a pun, caught somewhere between Here in the Now Frontier, and Hear in the Now Front Ear? 🤷🏻♂️
It’s a lousy title, but as you say, it’s a good album. Promised Land is probably my favourite, with Rage For Order my second favourite, and Operation:Mindcrime rounding out my top three.

Living Colour is my third favourite album from this selection. A great band that is so much more than “just” the band who did Cult of Personality.
I went and looked, and I have a lot more 1990 albums in my collection than I thought. Here’s 12 that I don’t think are in your list (if I’ve repeated anything blame it on covid brain fog), that I particularly like:
Adrian Belew - Young Lions Blues Traveler - Blues Traveler The Chills - Submarine Bells Duran Duran - Liberty Brian Eno & John Cale - Wrong Way Up Extreme - Pornograffiti Galaxie 500 - This Is Our Music Jane’s Addiction - Ritual de lo Habitual Mark Lanegan - The Winding Sheet Lou Reed & John Cale - Songs for Drella Straitjacket Fits - Melt Neil Young & Crazy Horse - Ragged Glory

I had a feeling that Extreme might be the only one of those you might like. Much of the rest is probably not not much interest to too many on this forum. I definitely wouldn’t have expected any of those albums, except perhaps Extreme, to have a place in this poll! 😄

The only album on that list I've listened to is the Deep Purple one. I must've been on another planet in 1990.
Anyway, four albums not on the list that I like: Devil Doll - Eliogabalus Mastermind - Volume One Ozric Tentacles - Erpland Social Tension - It Remainds Me of Those Days
And my guilty pleasure pop album of 1990: Jeff Lynne - Armchair Theatre

I went with Faith Hope Love from King's X. I love that album. A lot of good albums at the beginning of the list again plus Living Color and Iron Maiden are both good albums. That Extreme album might have been a first or second place vote if it had been listed.

not in the poll, but Kreator's Coma of Souls is a great album as well, I wanted to put it but changed my mind.
Sanctuary's album is amazing, their best. Annihilators Never, Neverland is excellent, masterpiece if not for the joke song Kraft's Dinner.

Yes. Been a long time since I listened to that Kristie album but loved it. Was Overkill's Horrorscope from 1990 or 91? Maybe 91. Exodus' Fabulous Disaster in 89.

Given what I just said in the Sabbath vs Rush poll you bumped, I have to admit that Tyr really isn’t too bad of an album. Not one I would ever have considered voting for in this poll, but not too bad considering how patchy Sabbath’s discography is.
Tyr is good enough that I can understand why someone might vote for it here, and bad enough that I can understand why they’d vote for it anonymously! 😜

FWIW I do like Tyr more than Eternal Idol or Headless Cross. In those albums, there was a kinda commercial rock element which didn't blend well with the metal for me. Tyr OTOH evokes the kind of epic metal we would hear more of in the 90s. Not my favourite sub genre but props to Iommi for changing yet again.
