Two polarizing albums by two of the most important progressive bands that both went on their commercially-friendly ways in the 80s. Which of these two records do you consider better and why?
I will go for Yes' mature power pop hit album!

I choose the easy way out this time and voted both. Tongue
otherwise a tough choice poll if you had the two albums against each other.

Also i don't find these two albums polarizing or controversial...

Loving Yes with all my heart, but I can't stand them in 80s pop format, it's awful to me, sorry.  Rush 'Power windows' is prog enough for me to enjoy.

90125 because I enjoy it more!  I've tried hard with Power Windows but it does nothing for me.  And I seem to prefer this era of Yes more than the "classic" era!

I enjoy both equally these days.

Back in the day I guess I would have voted for Yes. 90125 was immediate for me, and I heard it before I'd heard anything else by Yes. Power Windows was a disappointment at the time, as I was hooked on the MP era of Rush, but these days I think PW is a fine album.

I consider neither as 'sell out' albums. In fact 90125 would be in my top 5 Yes albums.

RRRUUUSSHHH over Yes.
Power Windows spends more time on the turntable than 90125.

Noe is one of my favorites, but I certainly listen to Rush more than Yes, out of these two albums.

Power Windows is a really good album, and I think it's very sonically pleasing as well. I always have thought of the addition of more prominent keys and electric drums as a progression for rush rather than regression or "sell-out." I can say many of the same things for 90125, great album especially from a production standpoint and many parts of it still feel progressive to me. I gotta vote Power Windows, some really transcending songs on that album.

I don't listen to either from start to finish anymore---but Power Windows has a few songs I still really like--90125 is very dated sounding .

I like 90125 but Power Windows is actually one of my favorite Rush albums so it gets my vote.

Back in the day (are we sick of that term yet?) I broke Rush into two categories. Old Rush (Up through Moving Pictures) and New Rush (Signals and beyond). Power Windows is hands down my favorite of the "new" Rush albums. It just speaks to me on so many levels and it's still pretty proggy.

I enjoy 90125 but it can't compare to PW.

I was about to hit the 90125 button, but then reflected on how much I really do like most of Power Windows, and went with the equal.

But have to admit, 90125 was probably a bigger part of my music world back in the day.

Power Windows isn't what I call polarizing. Rush fans love it.

90125? Definitely. Both are classics in my book, but Power Windows has no filler.

Power windows by a mile. Manhattan Project alone is a Rush classic. 90125 is imo is the start of the decline of Yes as a band.

Probably 90210. Power Windows is good but I think Rush has better albums from the 80's. Yes unfortunately weren't very prolific in the 80's but I still think 90210 is better than Power Windows.

This is all very old music--so I judge music from the past by would I pay to go see it played live?---I wouldn't pay a dime to hear 90125 live--or any Yes west album for that matter---but Rush maybe.  Makes sense for me but maybe not for everyone.

^All I can think about now is how my high school theater teacher had a small recurring role on that show long before she was a teacher. She was also a terrible director and played favorites in the worst way. A little glad she was fired, but sad it was after I graduated.

Yes, I know that. I thought that it was also a nickname for this album because of the similarity. I guess I'm the only one who knows about that joke. Confused

I love Yes and I'm a HUUGE Trevor Horn fan, but the songs on Power Windows are just BETTER than 90125.  I cant really explain it.  And I've never compared these two in any context.  But I would definitely go with Power Windows here.  I just listen to it more and it stands the test of time better.

I saw the tours for both these albums.  At the time, 90125 reinvigorated Yes and I saw a great performance by the band at Birmingham's NEC.  At the same venue sometime later, I saw Rush for the first time on that Power Windows tour.  It was one of the most turgid concerts I have ever been to, along with Dire Straits.

I am well aware of that joke...and have definitely said it many a time as in "90210 or whatever that album is called".  I googled the zip code 90125 and it says that it doesn't exist, but if it did it would be located in L.A.

Yep.  As a matter of fact I was trying to look up the album with catalogue number 90210 to complete the joke, but didn't have any luck finding that.  LOL  I was hoping it would be a Bangles album or something like that.

Ha. Funny how that didn't work out. Anyway, yes it was their catalogue number. Kind of a lazy way of coming up with an album title if you ask me. Trevor Rabin actually released an album of early demos called 90124 as a joke(speaking of jokes)but I never actually heard the whole thing. Some of it sounded pretty good though.

The Bangles. Tongue I can actually give you a Yes connection there. Susanna Hoffs who was with the Bangles did a cover album with Matthew Sweet and one of those  covers was of "I've seen all good people." It was on their second cover album. They did three.

90125 remains my favorite rock album of all time.

Power Windows is among my top 5 favorite Rush albums, but having songs like "Middletown Dreams" and "Emotion Detector" makes it a very easy victory for Yes!
