Read Page 1. Liberties taken was that I replaced Be Bop Deluxe from the original list with Eloy, because who knows the first band is? I was surprised that Eloy did not make the list. Echolyn was also replaced with Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso.

Be Bop Deluxe are surely far more widely known than Eloy, having had what I suspect was a great deal more mainstream and commercial success than Eloy did. Eloy would potentially only be more well known somewhere like PA. The world outside PA is very different from that within.
Not that it affected my vote. I like both Eloy and Be Bop Deluxe, but neither enough to have voted for.
I think my votes were fairly evenly spread between the two polls, though obviously it is ten favourite from these polls, rather than ten favourites overall. Not a bad list, though.

^ I actually love Be Bop Deluxe and Eloy about equally although they are very different bands.
I tend to think that Be Bop Deluxe should have been a lot bigger although they certainly reached a wider audience beyond prog fans. Eloy filled a bit of a gap in the years 1980-1985 when a lot of prog bands were changing to a more commercial approach. Eloy retained the sci-fi element that was widely derided and so created a very nice little niche for themselves , so much so that the BBC invited them over to play the Marquee club to be recorded for posterity. Frank was very pleased and regarded it as the pinnacle of the band's achievements.

King Crimson, Can, Pink Floyd, VDGG, and Camel from the other list are set in stone. 6-10 become much harder. I think I add PT, Renaissance, Jethro Tull, Tangerine Dream, and Gong, with a number of others losing out very narrowly.

Magma, Van der Graaf Generator, Hawkwind, Nektar, Tangerine Dream, Gong, Can, Gentle Giant, Soft Machine, Eloy. I deliberately left out the "Big Six"; first of all they are not in my personal top 10 except perhaps for King Crimson and second they will get enough votes anyway. I wish the German band Embryo would have been in the lists though; they would definitely have received a vote. I personally consider these "Big Six" to be overrated. Magma are definitely my number 1

I would have picked Echolyn if it was an option, but it's your poll. Carry on.

for me as a bridge player the band name "Leb I sohl" is funny because it is reminiscent of "Lebensohl", a very important and probably the most complicated bidding convention in bridge

Yeah, KC are well regarded alright. I flung 'em a vote myself. But twice as popular as anyone else?

Can and Tool have more votes than I was expecting and King Crimson is the most popular prog band. Also surprised that Rush is not in the top ten for this poll.
