Yes, the BBC have just shown a repeat of his career retrospective from about five years ago. Fascinating, and brought back many memories. He was a towering figure in television, but I might add here that he was also one of the finest sports journalists I have ever had the pleasure of reading.

Rest in peace to one of the greatest and most importert talk-show hoste in moderne time. A true shaper of what BBC is today. Very vitty and funnet man with awesome guests, only David Attenbourough i hold higer in BBC

Yep he was a big Cricket fan If I remember right but also a football supporter of his home town club Barnsley.

Those from the other side of the pond will not realise just how big his chat show was in the seventies in the UK For us he was the nearest equivalent to say Letterman. He interviewed everyone of any note incluidng famously Muhammed Ali, Vanessa Redgrave and Buddy Rich.

Interesting fact he appeared on Paul McCartney's Band On The Run LP cover. He agreed to this as McCartney said he would appear on his show if he did. In the end it took McCartney 16 years to fulfill his promise!
