Ever notice how certain songs are almost always mentioned as the least favorite when certain popular albums are being discussed? Yes, some of these are throwaways, filler, jokes, or just radical departures from everything else on the album. But which of these 10 songs would be your favorite of the bunch?

(With pre-emptive apologies to those who will immediately post that one of these is your very favorites: no offense is intended.)

Listed in alphabetical order.

I've already screwed up LOL
I chose my least favorite and the poll question asks for THE favorite.
Oh well, I'll pay more attention next time. Embarrassed

Your Own Special Way for me as well. I think it's a lovely dreamy little song, although I understand why it's a divisive one as well.

I went with Time Table. I never thought this was an unpopular song. I also like Five Percent for Nothing, Witch Hunt, and Your Own Special Way. The one on this list I like the least might be Seamus. I dumped myself into a sink and poured countries, cake frosting, and pickling liquid all over myself. Oops.

It's only now that I've gone over to the Top 10s and Lists board and found "Moving Pictures: Rank the Tracks", and far more people had "Vital Signs" as their least favorite from this album. This was a big surprise for me, as I've owned the album almost since it was released, and 95% of everyone I've ever talked to about it thinks very little of "Witch Hunt". But then, the whole point of these polls is to capture the worldwide "diversity of viewpoints" this site is so well known for!

I've never run into anyone who actively dislikes "Witch Hunt." If anything, "The Camera Eye" gets less love than both "Witch Hunt" and "Vital Signs," and I think all three are exceptional tracks, especially "Vital Signs"!

I don't think witch hunt is the least popular song on MP (that would be vital signs) but I voted for it anyway.

Hi,

It's sad to see Moonchild listed here. In many ways, it is a piece about the fall of the hippie/gypsy girl that was an ideal, with flower in her hair, of course! That it is "connected" to a famous/infamous novel is not really that big a deal for me ... but the "destruction" of a generation by the media due to the drugs, sex and rock'n'roll, is far more important, and that song would be considered a comment on that in my book.

Seamus, by PF may have been a follow up to Mademoiselle Knobs that you can see in the "Live in Pompeii" film (gosh ... I don't even remember it!), while also being a fun take on many bands having used a dog ... Jefferson Airplane did it, Manfred Mann did it although it was touched up to the beat, and probably a few more pieces around ... but those two others are imprinted in my memory.

I think it was a fun thing ... not meant to be anything but a fun moment ... but making a negative comment on these is strange ... so these musicians/artists can not have any fun? Oh wait ... they got all the money from us, and we don't want fun ... we want hits! Confused

A Venture isn't the worst song on The Yes Album IMO. I would give that honour to The Clap. Though neither are as good as the other four tracks.

"Are You Ready Eddie?" would have deserved a place in the list

Yes - A Venture. A fine song which I can appreciate. Perhaps it reminds me a bit of some on the songs on Paul McCartney's Ram album.

Rush - Circumstance. It has a sort of glam/punk vibe to it, but the band can not produce the vicious energy that is required for that genre. In general, I don't like Rush very much, and their music appears rather sterile to me. This song is no exception. Will not get a vote.

Yes - Five Percent For Nothing. This is quite a funny little thing which I enjoy.

Rush - Madrigal. I actually really like this song. Among other things, I am raised with a singer/songwriter approach, so songs of that type naturally appeal to me. Still, annoying vocals.

King Crimson - Moonchild. I take it, the track is on this list because of the "pling plong" section. That is actually my favourite part of the whole album!

Genesis - More Fool Me. Fine little song which is of course not revolutionizing in any way. Never understood what people have against it.

Pink Floyd - Seamus. Nothing wrong with it, perhaps a bit of a filler. But an enjoyable listen in any case.

Genesis - Time Table. I really like the chord changes in this. Can't see anything bad about it.

Rush - Witch Hunt. Fine song I would say. Not so much my taste though.

Genesis - Your Own Special Way. Folkish and charming. Fine song, but perhaps not so memorable.

My vote goes to Moonchild.

Aye.  A spoonful of saccharine on a bowl of sugar.  Ugh.

I don't understand why so many turn their backs on "Time Table" by Genesis.  I think it is a remarkable little song with amazing, historic lyrics!   I think of this phrase quite often, as men slaughter men across the face of the planet....

Why, why can we never be sure till we die
Or have killed for an answer,
Why, why do we suffer each race to believe
That no race has been grander

Well, if they just stuck to the song part, then it probably wouldn't be listed here for it is quite beautiful. But they chose to tack on 9 minutes and 45 seconds of tediousness that makes this track fully deserving of being listed in this thread.

It's a hard choice between Time Table and Witch Hunt. I went with Witch Hunt because it ha more punch in it (though Time Table is more beautiful).

I hate missing out on a chance to vote "A Venture," a rather underrated Yes song I think, but "Circumstances" is my favorite on the list.

Circumstances got my vote, followed by A Venture, Moonchild, Your Own Special Way, and Seamus.

Moonchild is a masterpiece, in his own way.

The only problem is the length of the song.

Hi,

I'm not sure that "length" is an issue with ANY MUSIC. It's just sad that in the past 50 years we have all of a sudden dismissed a lot of music because it is too long. You, and I will never sit here and say that Tchaikovsky, Mahler, Beethoven are "too long" ... and I can't help feeling that we, rock music lovers, can't get past the "hit" and ridiculous 4 or 5 minute song ... and we continue to trash longer pieces of music.

I don't find that good in music ... length is about what the artist sees, and the listener, and specially the public and the fan, should have no say in it, specially if they do not have the vision for it!

Of all the pieces in ITCOTKC, Moonchild is the one piece that could easily have been extended ... and likely become one of the first "new age" pieces of music ... GASP .... !!!!!

Hi,

Lorenzo is not trashing longer pieces of music, he is not even trashing Moonchild. How is saying a song is a bit too long trashing? Confused

I don't think he has an issue with length of ANY MUSIC. Just Moonchild. That's all he said.
Confused
