The last of my 1970s progressive rock polls; I omitted 1979 as there is hardly anything from that year I listen to at all....it was a difficult choice for 1970, but I chose John Mclaughlin's album "Devotion" , which is my favourite of that artist who has quite a few great albums to his credit...take a look and tell me your fave from my list....

Soft Machine's Third stands out here for me amongst various excellent albums and got my vote. I also very much like Nucleus's Solar Plexus, King Crimson's In The Wake of Poseidon, Atomic Rooster's Death Walks Behind You, Hawkwind's, Quatermass', Genesis' and well, most of these. It's a superb year.

Beggar's Opera album is so much fun, it probably won't get that many votes so I'll show it some love. ELP's debut is all about the massive keyboard talent of Keith Emerson but I do believe as a band there was better to come from them. Trespass is a fine album certainly and I like the Quartermass debut as well. ITWOP would then make up my top 5 for the year.

Trespass. Put the toaster in a box. Put the box in Jupiter's Red Spot.

Third over Devotion. Lawrence of Newark on keyboards doesn't hurt when it comes to that McLaughlin album.

ELP. Great debut. Every track is a keeper. Genesis is worth having just for The Knife and Stagnation.

Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson
